So I bought Paul McCartney's latest last night at Target, since I've just been getting into the Beatles over the past few days and they had stank else that remotely appealed to me in the "Music" department. Upon listening to it, I'm already appreciative of Paul's unfaltered melodicism after all these decades and Nigel Godrich's typically clean, detailed production. BUT, naturally, since I'm a young'in who's, you know, just NOW getting into the Beatles , and is familiar with not even 10% of Paul's solo catalogue, it's going to have grow on me over time.

Anypoo, what did the rest of you think of it?

I listened to a lot of Paul's solo stuff when I was younger, but found I didn't connect deeply with much of it (unlike Beatles, which is my favorite)

I like Paul and always will, but his solo stuff doesn't really move me for the most part. Ram's decent, McCartney, Red Rose Speedway, Band on the Run, all good if flawed. But mostly I think John & Paul really needed each other. John's solo stuff moves me, but he needed Paul, too, to be his very best.

Still, what I heard of this new record sounded kind of interesting. Kind of nostalgic sound with the odd piano lines of Fine Line. I like Radiohead, so that producer might have brought something necessary to the table.

its one of his best solo albums.. by a landslide.

I like it; the production is great and the songwriting is good as usual.

I liked Flaming Pie better, as well as Flowers in the Dirt.

So I would rank this as his 3rd best in the last 20 years.

Yep....one of his best solo albums for sure. Lot's of favorites on that album. Only a very very few songs I like less (but still love)!

Having been a Beatles fan now for many years, I may have just become 'comfortable' with some of the older solo albums, but this is my favorite solo Beatles album (better than Imagine, All Things Must Pass, Band On The Run etc.)

Last night I dreamed Paul was performing on Saturday Night Live. He looked like a grizzled old hippie with very red eyes & he held a phone between his ear & shoulder. At some point he forgot the words, and someone came from backstage to talk to him.

Just thought I'd share this meaningless bit of info.

I think the chaos with the dvd is worth it.. if u can find it..

has like a 30 minute interview type thing with nigel and paul.. and then the "line art" which is the artwork (literally line art) and it shows each picture while 3 instrumentals from the album are playing.. which are "Ride to Vanity Fair", "At the Mercy" and my favorite.. "Anyway"
