The Return of Jody Watley

I'm kinda excited about this:

According to her site:
'The Makeover' will be released in August! You will be able to hear music
previews for 'The Makeover' in June exclusively at the VirginMegastore
in key ciites. There are major developments to be announced soon!

There’s a lot of misinformation floating around about me, making me wonder - whose life is it anyway?!!! The best thing one can do, whether you’re in the spotlight or not - is to write a book about your own life - who better to be the gatekeeper of your history..than you?!!

I’ve been slowly working on a book about my life, my journey thus far.
If you’re in a hurry, a journalist needing to get quick facts before our interview or you just have a short attention span, I will try to get to the core quickly.
Jody Watley - Born January 30 in Chicago, Illinois.
Grammy Winning Singer, Songwriter, Producer, Model, CEO of Avitone Recordings.
6 Top ten Pop Hits, 15 Top 40 R&B Hits, 11 Dance Hits. 8 #1 Singles. (be it Pop, R&B or Dance - 80’s, 90’s 00’s). Popularized the phrase ‘Hasta La Vista Baby , later picked up by Arnold Schwarzenegger. One of the first black artists of the 80’s and 90’s to successfully merge music and fashion. Recognized as a trendsetter. Sense of style was noteworthy, leading to layouts for Harper’s Bazaar, VOGUE, and Rolling Stone. Named one of People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People. Original member of singing group Shalamar (1977-1984). Participated in historic charity single - Band Aid ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas”. Influences: Grace Jones, Diana Ross, Prince, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder.

Anyone else here into Jody Watley?

Yes it is. And it's not bad. You can listen to the new tracks on Jody's MySpace page.

Dance music is what I want too but I doubt that's what we'll get. It'll probably be full of midtempo shit and ballads just like everyone else. That's the only shit that sells in this world full of dead asses.

I think you can hear some of her new material on www.myspace.com/jodywatley.

There is a review of 'Borderline' on billboard.com.

http://www.billboard.com/...1002463219

What happens when Jody Watley gets her hands on Madonna's signature hit "Borderline"? She makes it her own. Instead of taking the easy route by updating the dance-pop classic for today's dancefloors, Watley takes the timeless lyric and surrounds it with beautifully chilled-out rhythms. Will Watley's version rattle a few nerves? Most likely. But once the shock wears off and song recognition kicks in, she will have already taken control of the mind, body and soul. Within a slowed-down, sparse arrangement (piano, percussion, synths), the heart-shaped tale takes on added poignancy. "Borderline" is the lead single from her new album, "The Makeover," due this summer. If the album maintains this pop-tronic vibe, Watley fans are in for a real treat. —Michael Paoletta

No comments on the cover song?

Another review:

http://rhythmic.blogdrive.com/

Singer Jody Watley recently covered the timeless Madonna classic, "Borderline". Watley covered the song as part of her forthcoming musical release, The Makeover.

Jody Watley's cover parallels her evolution as an artist – her arrival as an ambient/electronic soul musician in recent years, if you will. Watley's decidedly more loungy reading of the seminal Madonna tune is sure to inspire debate among the fans of both artists, many of whom probably never imagined that the song could be re-interpreted in such a sensual fashion. Indeed, Watley's sultry vocals imbue the somewhat angry (and at times – pleading) Madonna track with an undeniable sexiness.

Jody is extremely talented and I always felt that she deserved much more success than she had.She released two hugely successful solo albums in the late 80s but then people forgot about her.Hopefully, with this new CD,she will make a comeback.I am still hoping that she will reunite with Shalamar.
