Question for those who have been to the Roxy on Sunset in LA

what is the parking situation? Am I going to be forced to pay for parking?

You can always park at Virgin (Record Store) and walk over. Virgin has its own parking and I believe it's free (9A to Midnight).

Do you know for sure that Virgin doesn't police their parking lot like Nazis? lol

I see we have something in common...I loathe paying to park. I almost always choose walking over paying.

Although Minneapolis has turned into Murderapolis again lately and all the free spots I know of people have been being killed around. One guy was literally executed walking back to his car in Uptown AFTER they gave up their money.

That's a long-ass walk! VS is way up by CRESCENT HEIGHTS and ROXY is down by San Vicente. You prolly mean TOWER RECORDS.

Frankly I wouldn't bother. EVERYWHERE on Sunset is tight and if you are out past their closing, your car will get locked up,towed and impounded.

The lot across from ROXY at the signal is $7 - $10; depending on when you arrive (prices jump after 6PM). A parking ticket is more than $35 and towing fees will amount to more than $200. You can gamble and take the risk, but I doubt you got the gambling allowance of Charles Barkley. razz

Oh hell no I aint parking illegally lol I really don't want to pay to park tho. The city purposely only allows 10 whole parking spots in the entire city so they can fleece the hell out of you any time you go there.

WeHo's parking detail don't play. They are very unforgiving.
Just make sure you read the signs carefully.
Residents have registration stickers to give them street-parking priority,

When I go to Roxy, I usually always valet park my car. It's usually $4-6 USD. Might've gone up a dollar or two since I've been, but it's less of a hassle and worry.

Parking on Sunset is crazy, so try not to be spendthrift. I'd hate to come out of a show and my car is towed (has happened a few times). Learned my lesson.

I don't recommend parking there at all.

It's not free. I've been in that parking lot. Plus, you usually have to buy something in that complex to get anything remotely free. Plus, you'll end up paying about the same if you park there (or a little more) vs. paying the valet jockeys in the Roxy lot.

It's a no-win situation.

Option:

If you're up for some WALKING, you could park your car at the WeHo Post Office on San Vicente near Santa Monica and then walk (or take the bus) up to Sunset.

The Post Office parking lot is unrestricted and they don't tow you away after postal hours. Just get out of there before 5:30 AM and you're good. But you're gonna WALK.

I saw Sheila E there last year - and I parked across the street for like $5-7.

Last time I went there, I got a cheap motel with parking for something silly like $50, and walked for 10 mins to get there.

I remember having the 8th pint of stella in the corner bar opposite Tower Records....then everything became a blur..... smile lol

Except I could not believe everything closed so early! the bars in my local English village stay open later than LA. Whats that about!?!?! I thought it was a party town!?!?!

There are some pretty ridiculous ordinance laws goin on. When Prince played the Hollywood bowl, they shut that shit down at 11:00 because of the city curfew. HOLLYWOOD CALIFORNIA DAMNIT! What do you mean curfew stfu

I think it's the residents who live near the bowl that put that ordinance into play - on the hill side, not the street side. Same with the Greek.

WHO are you going to see at the Roxy, foxy?

Me too.

I had dinner at The Rainbow a few weeks ago prior to the Thomas Dolby show at The Key Club.

Hadn't been in H'wood for a while and forgot what a bear parking was.
Tried to get cute and got a $45 wake up call. Won't be trying that again. confused

Hate to turn this into a technical debate, but the "Disneyfication" of both Times Square and Sunset Boulevard (and Hollywood overall) in the mid- to late 90's led to the commercialized, overly glossy look of the areas.

Both areas have had huge, eye-sore-inducing billboards since the early 20th Century. Neither directly copied the other. And both have been Red-Light districts of their respective cities for generations.

[Yes, yes, more LA vs. NY blather... smile]
