My dog in this fight is partially comedic/antagonistic and partially sentimental. I'm a born and raised New Yorker (now living in L.A.) from the Times Square/Red Light era. When there was a hooker/mugger/drug dealer on every corner. You know, the good old days. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

They both have a charm and energy that are distinct. But, in many ways, I feel like both are essentially the same beast structured differently. For almost every neighborhood in NYC, I can find a neighborhood that exhibits its ethos in LA (same with Chicago, too)... [you can tell I'm sort of a geography -- Gah! Nevermind me! ]

My friend lived on Cherokee and you had to fight pimps, whores, dealers and junkies just to get through the front door One time I was over at his apartment and he was in the bathroom getting ready. And Cops was on TV. I looked really closely because that building looked familiar and then the lightbulb went off. I called for my friend and he came and I asked him if that looked familiar. ....it looks like my building.....sure enough it was his building! The segment was of the blind Indian dude that lived in the building and some chump thought they could take advantage of a blind mand and rip him off and he kicked their ass 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740
