"What You Gave Me" by Diana Ross

This is my favorite song by Diana Ross. It's Diana getting funky as hell. This jam kinda reminds me of The Jacksons for some reason. Give it up y'all.

I have no idea. The first time I ever heard the song was when I bought the Deluxe Edition of "Diana" (the album with "Upside Down"). "What You Gave Me" is on the bonus disc.

Yeah, the 12" mix is great dancing jig
I read somewhere that she didn`t like disco music, but many of her best songs are disco songs.

lol...did she really say that? How does she explain songs like...

"Love Hangover" (1976)
"Lovin,Livin,Givin" (1978)---an obvious Giorgio Moroder-inspired song
"The Boss" (1979)
"Upside Down" (1980)---produced by Chic!

lol

lol

Because at this point in her career, she really was trying to keep up with Donna Summer.

Funny,I don't remember this album or it's singles.I recall the album that came out in 1977 (with the hit single "Gettin Ready For Love"),and of course,I recall the album that came after it ("The Boss" in 1979).Is it safe to say the 'Ross' album was a flop?

I don't own the album and am only familiar with a few tracks and the album artwork. I see it occasionally in record bins. Lovin' Livin' and Givin' is also on this album. Aren't there two slightly different versions of that track? I recall the intro to it being altered on different releases of Thank God It's Friday.

I just peaked at its allmusic entry, and according to them, this album only peaked at #32 on the black albums chart and #49 on pop albums.

It's a goodie. They still continue to ignore my requests for decade books on the R&B chart. lol I'm sure they are quite tired of my requests.
