I know I'm gonna get shot for this but the new Chili's CD is HORRIBLE. Not just the single, but the whole CD. I checked it out on VH-1's site and it's awful.
I was a diehard fan from "Freakey Styley", "Uplift Mofo", "Mother's Milk", "B.S.S.M" (and followed them on the college circuit w/ Fishbone). But the Chili's are just going thru the motions nowadays to make the dollar. They went from being edgy and funky to turning into G-rated wholesome family entertainment. I'm glad they're still around and it's great that Frusciante has cleaned up his act, but they gotta come a little stronger next time.

I am fan of chili's from the era you mentioned as well, esp Freakey and Mother's Milk. I don't have a atrong opinion yet on the new stuff except to say I'm not crazy about Dani California. I also agree with the similarities to Last Dance with Mary Jane. But anyway, I think the new stuff is consistent and strong as far as songwriting goes I just don't know how interesting musically it is. IMO. There's a lot to absorb so I want to give it awhile for before I make hard opinions. I'll also add John F. is amazing on the new stuff. No doubt. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Yeah, I LOVE the song and the video. I'm a huge Pepper fan from way, way back. I have most all of their cd's. I adore Flea and John Frusciante. In the video, they all look great. I'm so happy that John came back even though I loved Dave, too. I really liked One Hot Minute as well. I'm also more into their older funky stuff mainly because I just prefer that vibe. But their newer cd's aren't bad. Musically, John and Flea... wow. Both of them are great.
Yeah, the Peppers. I read something somewhere that the last time that they toured, they were one of the most successful acts. [Edited 5/6/06 6:28am]

Who are the bands they're portraying in their new video? I recognized:
The Beatles The Who? Parliament Funkadelic Nirvana But I didn't recognize the other bands (NY Dolls, maybe?)

One of them was suppose to be a goth band...couldn't be the cult though...I don't know if they were doing indivual bands...I saw them on TV just talking about how they wanted to pay homage to certain eras/genes of rock music...but I mean obviously he was trying to be Kurt Cobain during Nirvana's unplugged so maybe they were portarying certain bands.

Oooh another great song by them is "Deep Kick" off of One hot minute (also one of their great albums I thought Navarro was a great edition to the band although I'm glad Frushante is back!) I love how it starts off slow/kedis' spoken word then the guitar and drums kick in and it is like amazing electric rock....soooo cool! Oooh that song gets me pumped!
Chilli Peppers worship! One Hot Minute is a criminally underrated album.... It's a very special album for me, probably because it's the first RHCP album I bought, when I was 14 years old.... Yeah I'd take One hot minute over BloodSugarSexMagic any day. I don't know I think BSSM has just become too over played...although it is really good....I guess I'm just bored with it. Remember that New Orleans song? I think it is track 13...omg those lyrics were like...naughty! So you were fourteen when One hot Minute came out? You must be around my age then because I think that's how old I was...I used to have One hot minute on cassette. Yes I do think they have to get a little funkier...their last three albums sound too similar.

I was born September 30th 1982, so actually I must have been 13 years old when I bought that CD, because I remember buying it in the Spring of '96... It was one of my first real rock CDs, because only a few months earlier I only listened to stuff from the radio, mainstream Euro-pop.... I didn't care that much for RHCP at that time, but then I hit puberty and I started playing guitar so I guess One Hot Minute was a big part of me growing as a person and as a music listener....

The Beatles The Who? Parliament Funkadelic Nirvana But I didn't recognize the other bands (NY Dolls, maybe?) I think just a mixture of the whole glam scene: Bowie, T. Rex, Iggy Pop, etc. And then of course they do the whole 80s hair band/Poison thing too. Also a Cream and Hendrix Experience type era as well. Oh yeah, I love how they throw the Misfits/Samhain/Danzig parody in there too. That's a cool song.... btw, I recommend you check out, if you haven't already, the Mother's Milk remaster because there's a slightly longer, remixed version of the song on it and about 5 other bonus tracks.... On a sidenote, I just finished watching a recent RHCP concert (from 29th April 2006) featured on MTV Live... The band was on fire, especially John Frusciante .... They did many songs from the new album, which sounded great... But the highlight of the concert IMO was when they did "Me and My Friends" and also the guitarsolo and bass solo they played right after "Dani California".... Wow, I hope they come to Iceland on this tour .... I heard many rumours about them coming during the By The Way tour but that never happened unfortunately.... On the bright side, I got to see them and Mars Volta in Norway on that same tour and I was REALLY close to the stage...
