I've listen to the album a few times now, and I like it. Its much more mellow than I expected, but it does suffer from being too long.

They aren't capable of enough different styles to carry off that many tracks in one go.

I think I'll be making a killer single CD version for the car.

mellow.....maybe yes, but in a different way than BTW or Californication. I like the fact that they've done more funky guitar riffs again.

The guitar playing seems particularly good on this album. the stuff at the end of "Turn it again" is fantastic.

Even Blood Sugar... was a bit too long I thought. But it was a masterpiece in its own way. By the way had some great stuff but it was too long. I expect this album to be much the same.

If you liked both of the last couple records, there's no reason why you won't love the new one. It's cut from the same cloth, so to speak.

I don't agree, this one is better.....not as whiny!

Maybe so, but it's not that different style wise than the last few records. It's no major jump forward and that's OK. I think RHCP fans will like/love it and others won't care either way. I don't think it will win over a ton of new fans and it doesn't need to. It just needs to be a good double album, which it is.

You can go to VH1.com and listen to the whole album, sorry I don't have the direct link.

then how do I explain to myself that I hate both Californication & BTW, yet I do like this one?
I believe it is different, the guitar-playing is different, but recognizable.

I can't wait to hear the new album myself. The video for "Dani California" is pretty funny and creative. And I certainly hope they bring the wild, dirty, nasty FUNK like in the days of yore. I don't know if the new album will match the greatness of "BSSM" or "Freaky Styley" but I just hope it sounds cooler than "By The Way".

Well the guitar playing is alot more textured and layered for sure. John F. experiments more with guitar tones as well as oppposed to having kinda the same sound like on BTW and Californication. Maybe that's why you like it more. Keep in mind, music IS subjective.
wink

I thought they were over.....the peppers.....After Californication & By The Way I loathed them.....I couldn't take no more.....too much 'Under The Bridge'.
Now they're back and it feels like nostalgia!!!! Back is the funky guitar & bassline, good songs, good edgy solo's! Really, I'm surprised.....2 CD's, what I've heard sofar is good and I wanna hear more!

Probably their best since Blood Sugar Sex Magik.....(but not better!)

who would have thought? First Pearl Jam, now the Peppers.....woot!

oh, I believe the album is not out til next week or so..... lol

see, i also thought they were over. sorry but they have been sucking for quite some time now. since BSSM and that was what 15 years ago? i still think mother's milk was their best ever album. i haven't haerd anything yet from this new cd but i'm curious to hear some songs.

seems like they stuck in a rut...

prove me wrong

i also think they're stuck in a rut. they've become soft and unfunky. not sure that Anthony's voice does it for me any more either.

The softer, more musical side works fine for me, but you're right about Anthony. That stuff doesn't suit him too well, and I think he's maybe the reason their albums seem too long. He's not capable of taking them through 70 minutes of material and keeping it fresh.

I like the video for their song that's out now. I can't remember what it's called, but it's a good song too. I was shocked actually. lol

Is Stadium Arcadium the name of the album coming out? Or a song? confuse

the album is Stadium Arcadium...

The song is called Dani California. I think it is a girl's name in the song.

I just bought this. I haven't yet heard the second disc, but I listened to the first a few times. It's kind of a step back into their old sound, but maintaining the melodic & harmonic stuff they've incorporated since Californication. I like it as much or more than By The Way (which I liked a lot, but thought was too long).

But that doesn't mean it's as good as their old stuff and their new stuff put together. Anthony's the weak link. His voice has never quite been able to handle real music and his rhymes sound forced. He's up to about 50% of what the rest of the band can handle. I like him, and he's a good front man. He has charisma as a performer & personality, he's sensitive & cool, open to trying new things, good rhythm, spiritual, but he doesn't sing well or consistently write great lyrics!

Sounds like it would have made a GREAT single disc, though.

Great production as usual.
