Gino Vanelli fans...where should I start? Just bought an excellent Gino Vanelli compilation.I've been a fan of his for years, but besides the hits "I Just Wanna Stop"(1978) and "Living Inside Myself"(1981),I don't know too much about his music. After hearing this compilation,I am now eager to explore his albums.Where should I start? Any suggestions? His music is very jazzy and experimental....hard to categorize.Much of it is soulful, but there's also a rock and jazz feel to some of these tracks.

It's excellent. I saw Gino perform way back in the 80's. He was very sexy and had an awesome voice. Still is and still does!!

Hurts To Be In Love - theme to a painful break up
The break down towards the end of Santa Rosa is a kick ass break down. I remember listening to that song over and over under the headphones. Nightwalker is another great song. He's a very talented songwriter and singer. JazzyJ's suggestions for albums are a great start.

A BIG to all of you here ..... feels like home
I've seen Gino perform about 6 times now and everytime it was different . He's a perfectionist of it's finest . A fan i spoke went to a concert from him in the 70's , when Ross and Joe Vannelli were part of the Tour too . During the soundcheck earlier in the day , they tested together with Gino a grand piano from ( i believe ) Steinway , and they sent it back ... Gino didn't take less for granted . Another add that Joe & Ross are talented composers too , i've seen their names appear many times in credits from different artists . One show i've seen he did with a complete European philharmonic orchestra . He faxed and mailed all the instrumental parts to each musician of the orchestra , came a week before the show and rehearsed continuously ... and it shurely paid off ... what a performance . Some of his clasic tracks he had totally re-arranged . This was all around the release of his " Slow Love " album . He entered the stage with " Alive By Science " , but with a complete different intro ... man , i tripped ! The original tapes from that live-show , which were recorded for a radiobroadcast , were first handed to Gino , so he could define all the audio in his private studio . He just wanted to give the audience the best quality in a radioshow . And indeed , the final broadcast was crispal clear . A shot from those rehearsals and some Montreal-rehearsals in the link beneath : http://ginovannelli.tripo...lpics.html The newly arranged and live performed " Hurts To Be In Love " was magical . A few years before that i saw a show from his Yonder Tree Tour . I feel that the jazz-side of him began to grow more to him when he released that album . Man i could go on & on & on ..... If anyone here would like to get an impression of how Gino's performances were in the 70's or 90's, then there are 2 live-dvd's available on Gino's official website : www.ginov.com + _____ Brother 2 Brother Tour + 90's Tour ( Live in Montreal ) The B2B tape is my fave ... one big trip with G and a selection of great muscians ( including keyboardist Bill Meyers , who also worked a lot with EW&F ) Above here you see the only released single of his unreleased project called Twisted Heart This was the story to it : " With Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss getting ready to sell A&M, and a new CEO at the company informing him that he should follow Rod Stewart’s lead and record a disco album, in 1980 Vannelli elected to sign with Arista Records. His sole Arista album, Nightwalker, provided him with a #6 pop hit in “Living Inside Myself.” When Vannelli opted to follow it up with a stripped down edgier album called Twisted Heart, the powers at be at Arista refused to release it. For the next three years, in a move reminiscent of similar episodes in the careers of George Michael and Prince, Vannelli and his record company engaged in all-out war." Source : http://www.ginov.com/About/Bio.shtml That single can be heard on this fine 3-pack remaster , with some live-work too . Who went to see the Detroit gig in 2005 ? Peace & appaloosa ! 100MPH . . . [Edited 4/6/06 13:48pm]

"Joe and Ross are talented composers too,i've seen their names appear many times in credits from different artists"
Ross has worked with Earth Wind and Fire before. He's the co-writer of "Where Do We Go From Here",which I consider to be the best song on their 2003 album 'The Promise'.That song was originally recorded in 1978.He also did some work on their 1980 album 'Faces'.Very talented guy.

Worth to hear the total change of arrangement .
