Herbie Hancock "Rockit" Video God, what a horrid video, those pant legs hanging from the rod in the closet kicking around, robotic looking headless mannequins walking around, all kinds of weird stuff. Whenever I see this video, I seriously want to throw something at my TV. Most of the videos for the 80's songs I like, but not this one. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Agreed. Back when I worked in a record store, some cd came in with remixes of that song. I forget what it was, but we played it just because of how awful it was. We just made fun of it the whole time. My friend thinks very highly of Herbie Hancock(personally, I don't know his stuff) but he didn't like that song. It's so lame.

Ewwww, was it remixes by Herbie Hancock himself or by other artists? One version of that tune is enough. It is a bad song. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I have no idea what cd it was or if he did the remixing. I wanna say it was just a promo cd of some type--maybe a radio station or record label's compilation.

This site shows you how a scratch performance such as "Rockit" would be done on sheet music... scratch notation.

You learn something new every day. Turntablism transcription. And it makes sense, since this scratching thing is the newest addition to real instrumentation that hip-hop made.

Not only was theRockit video creative for its time, Herbie Hancock showed once again (as he did with Funk in the 70s) that he could take the essence of a genre and show the musical "possibilities". tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I agree about the song but c'mon that video ain't some avant-garde shit. It didn't have to be avant-garde compared to the majority of drek Pop videos that were out at the time. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. And it was cool to hear my mom talk about Herbie. She was familiar with his earlier stuff, of course, and shocked her then-preteen son with some musical knowlege. ;; It was perfect for that time, all experimental and futuristic. It was a great part of MTV's roster for a long time, too. For good reason. tA, sounds good, man. Meant to Org note you back!

See I said that because it's Herbie who said the video looked futuristic or ahead of it's time or something. But you're right, it was different from anything else.

I would agree! No offense, but I don't think the "young'uns" realize how different this video was when it was released. I remember thinking it was fascinating. You'd have to remember what else was out there.... Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.
