Free Remixes

Just stumbled upon a website with some free remixes that are legal to download...

http://this.is/bix/

There's a really mournful strange mix of Madonna's 'American Pie' on there.

I'm unsure whom this "Bix" person is. They appear to have connections to a number of Icelandic acts.

"Bix" is an Icelandic producer/remixer called Birgir Sigurdsson. He has worked a lot in the advertisement industry and with some artists like Gus Gus, Beck, Sigur Rós and Madonna but I remember when his name was almost constantly in the Icelandic music press, around '98 or '99... The acts he produced around this time (Subterranean, Real Flavaz) were huge here in Iceland, especially Real Flavaz. There are some songs on the site with those acts, if you want to check out what was being played on the radio in Iceland in 1998 biggrin ... I recommend the album he did with Daníel Ágúst (formerly of Gus Gus), Swallowed a star... the album can be a bit OTT at times but it's good nonetheless... I tried to find articles about Bix on the net, but unfortunately the main music magazine in Iceland that dealt with this type of music, Undirtónar, ceased its publication in 2004 and its back issues are nowhere to be found on the net neutral .... The only recent thing I found about Bix is an article from an Icelandic tabloid (in Icelandic) about Bix breaking up with his model girlfriend: http://www.visir.is/Exter...060112.pdf
(page 9 in the document, on the right)

P.S. You might need to reload the Bix website for the menu to show up properly.

never understood why Gus Gus didn't have a decent career yet, although in the 'underground scene' they get a lot of respect, no wonder..

Yeah, it's kinda surprising they didn't hit the big time around the "This is Normal" album in 1999.... I remember seeing the "Ladyshave" video a few times on MTV at the time.... I think it started to go downhill with the band when they fired Hafdís Huld the same year.... She said in an interview that she never quite fitted in the band, mainly because of the age difference.... Daníel Ágúst had already left the band when Gus Gus released Attention in 2002 to pursue his solo career.... I can't remember many memorable tunes from that album, except maybe "David", which featured the sexy vocals of the new girl in the band, Urdur....I like the title of the song as well for obvious reasons razz ... "I still have last night in my body... I wish you were with me".... tonk horny

King Britt's Scuba mix of 'David' is one of my favorite melancholic dancetunes from the last 5 years, makes me wanna cry..
