I myself like the early blues singers like bessie smith and 'Ma' Rainey who claimed she inveted the name blues. But there are tons of other great singers from that period.
As for instrumental blues, I only like the piano blues. I can reccomend Otis Spann, Lux Lewis, Albert Ammons. I also like some of the 50-60's soul/blues that aretha did, like 'I never loved a man' or 'Today I sing the blues'. But my all time fav blues track from aretha would be 'Night Life'. Night life ain't no good life but it's my life... There are so many artists it's hard to think about just a few. Fortunately it's hard to go wrong with blues musicians. You could also give a try to Pandora.com. It provides you with artists and songs based on musial tastes. Hope I was of any help. You're in for a treat with blues. I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt. | |
