Best debut record? Right now i am listening to 'Murmur' by REM and after listening to this cd for about 10 years i am still amazed how such a young band was able to create such mature, intriguing, layered, magical music on their debut album.
I mean: here is a band trying to create subtle, elegant, moving music (and succeeding with that!) during a period where milked out disco-riffs and totally bland AOR-rock where 'ruling' the charts (1982 / 1983). A record that is more then 20 years old, the first full release of them, but still able to move me and intrigue me, showing a subtle timeless, spaceless quality. The best debut record in my opinion. I am curious about your choices...

I think it's Joy Divisions's "Unknown Pleasures". @GangstaFam: is it? I think Curtis Mayfields first solo album Curtis is it for me. If it counts. Other very good debüts: dire straits the doors freak out! (watch out! 40th anniversary on june, 27th --> obviously warner has bought back the zappa catalogue from ryko or something, we can expect something...) etc

My choices: My Aim Is True--Elvis Costello Are You Experienced--Jimi Hendrix Led Zeppelin The Sun Sessions--Elvis Presley. I don't know if that's a proper album, though. My Legacy
