This thread is about an Icelandic singer/songwriter called Hilmar Gardarsson. His music is influenced by artists such as Nick Cave, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen Tom Waits and John Lennon. He released his debut album, Pleased To Leave You, in Iceland in 2004 and received very good reviews. The Icelandic newspaper Morgunbladid rated the album 4 out of 5 stars and Radio 2 in Iceland featured the album as album of the week in early 2005. The album features original songs by Hilmar, sung in English and recorded with some of the top session players in Iceland. Hilmar's singing style is a bit controversial, however I must say that regardless of whether his voice is your cup of tea, the songwriting and arrangements are really good IMO. I may be a bit biased, since Hilmar is one of my childhood friends, but I think this album is one of my favorite Icelandic albums. Since he released this album, Hilmar has been writing songs with lyrics in Icelandic and hopefully a 2nd album is on its way ....
