I did a cover of this song and one of the only cover songs I've ever played live.

Did you do this song to the degree that it was done in this clip? To be honest, the first time I heard MAGGOT BRAIN, I wanted to cry. It filled me with that much emotion.....

And I would bet if you asked Prince to play this on the spot, granted such a thing ever happened, he would know it and play it. No rehearsal, just Blam here you go.

IMO, Prince doesn't have anything guitarwise that tops this. I'm am just as familar with his work as any other avid listener, so don't bother listing. I've heard it.

You always say that but P did not even make the RS Top 100 guitar players. So I don't think he is seen as the greatest.

Prince is a better player than some of the people that made that list. Jack White? C'me on! I try to ignore lists like that from pop publications like Rolling Stone. There was a time when RS was on top of things but that time has long since past. They play politics with who's names they mention and that destroys credibility. Like Prince, they are coasting off reputation these days.

First of all what does Hazel have to do with this?
He wrote the song, but Hampton performs it here.
Eddie played also bass for pfunk

Who ever plays it here is not that important. What I'm saying is this. Prince could sit down and come up with some stuff that is just as good or better than this. I LOVE the track but don't tell me Prince can't play this good....I just don't believe it.

One of my favorite P-Funk tracks! Thanks for this!
• Did you first think Prince was gay? •

Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

I have the video - "Joy In Rep" solo from the NYC aftershow Larry on bass (somewhere) and Prince KILLS it. I don't think I've ever seen him solo like that in my life. Crazy scales and a killer metal tone.

By the way, Blackbyrd said George has invited Prince many, many, times to come up and jam "MaggotBrain" onstage with the Mob for years and Prince keeps backing out. Prince says he wants to do it, but finds the reason to never do it.

Speaking of Eddie, I got the new "Home" CD from Brenda Hazel. One I give it a listen, I'll post a review.

Yes it is..but I'm not Jimi Hazel..I'm just a big fan. (lol) Eddie Hazel did a lot for the Mob besides play lead guitar. He arranged and co-wrote the whole killer "Standing On The Verge" LP and the "Free Your Mind" LP. He also co wrote "Shakey Ground" for the Temps in 74 and worked briefly at Motown. Eddie also sang his ass off on a lot of obscure Parliament tunes and in 78, he was the musical arranger for Bonnie Pointer's solo LP (which is a collector's item).

Eddie also influnced a legion of guitarists (famous and not so famous)..some of them are here on this board. Eddie did a LOT in the brief time he was here.

That's cool. Jimi is great, down to earth cat. And on his site, he has a great story about him meeting Eddie Hazel and Jimi Hendrix.
