Candy Girl

I think this song is a classic but what about the album? Is it more or less like the single? Does it have that same electro pop feel? I'm thinking of finally buying this cd.

We're talking about New Edition, right?

The single is very representative of the album. I think "Popcorn Love" is the best track. There are also some ballads like "Is This The End" and "Jealous Girl". All have those Jackson 5-like vocals. I've been wanting to rebuy this album on CD for the longest time, but it might be more out of nostalgia. I was 14 when this album dropped and around the same age as all the members so I thought it was very cool at the time.

I wouldn't say new wave. There is a slight early 80s breakdancing feel to it. Or maybe that's just me being influenced by the videos. If you like the singles you've heard then you should get the album.

Ugh, what awful voices they had then. It honestly makes me wince when the video pops up on TV every so often.

Its more beatboxin like "Pass The Beat"
She Gives Me A Bang - Very poppy early 80's cheese

Gimme Your Love - FUNKY .. Love that song. Lots of funk.

Shudda Never Told Me - FUNKY sounds almost jus like Popcorn Love..the beat and the guitar sounds.

Gotta Have Your Lovin... FUNKY....kinda just like Shudda Never Told Me also, but has a break in it, kinda like the beat of "Lolita"

Heavy use of synths and those 80's handclaps.

Trust me you would like it.

They sounded like chipmunks on helium, but that album's a classic! There was an unrefined charm about them back then. My fave cut is "She Gives Me A Bang". The video for that song is my fave by them, too - it was "GHETTO" as hell (and they could've used a trip to the barbershop) but they still pulled it off. And girls still loved Ralph and "bad boy" Bobby...

Brings back memories...

The album has a kind of "Jackson 5 Meets The 1980s" feel to it. The 12 Inch of "Candy Girl" is much better than the album version.

lol ... yeah , in that "perspective" it's a classic .
When it came out , i was heavy into the funk of Cameo , Kleeer , Mtume , Slave , Zapp , etc , so it wasn't a track i could hip to ( too sweet ).
