Did Alicia Keys motivate Mariah Carey to make a comeback? I love the Mimi record, it's a very solid R&B album. I hear a little Alicia influence on some songs, I wonder if Mariah saw how well Alicia was doing and it made her really get back in the game. Almost every song on Mariah's cd is strong, great production, good mix of songs, nice melodies. Great comeback.. ______________________________________________

interesting observation. i could see why you would say that it does have the same kind of vobe as AK's songs. Maybe Mimi did her research before she dropped an album to see what was selling.

I hadn't listened to Emancipation of Mimi in months but I brought it back for "Say Somethin". Mariah really put in a performance this time. You can hear it in songs like "Stay The Night", "We Belong Together", but also "Circles", "Mine Again", etc.

I really like the songs on it, even the more formulaic clubby ones.

What clubby songs are those? Am I missing something besides GYN? like omg nice acronym GYN!!!!! That's the one I'm talking about. I don't really listen to "To The Floor". I would say "Like Thattaathat a-Like That Y'all" would fit as a clubby song.

I really really really really hate ILT, lol.

When I heard it on my TV it had no bass and it was just the chord changes, and I thought that was really elegant for a club song. But then it goes back to the ridiculous birdwhistle synth - how subversive!
