Goldfrapp's Supernature and the digital divide

As I have been listening to this over and over, one thing became really clear to me. The thing that might put people off this album is the initial coldness of some of the songs. And while I think some listeners can be left feeling like they are wandering in a soulless wasteland, they are missing something that isn't evident on a first listen.

Songs like "Ride A White Horse", "Fly Me Away", "Slide In", "Koko" have clinical and cold beginnings and for someone who does not gravitate towards tightly controlled music, it could feel very unfriendly. I realized this on my first listen. But as I explored this album further I realized the Goldfrapp signature is stamped all over these songs. If you keep with those songs, you will see that they become infused with real warmth.....the songs become something fuller, different and more adventurous than would be expected within the first 30 seconds of each of those tracks.

Then there is a quirky song like Satin Chic, that sounds like it could be the soundtrack to some futuristic space age Western Saloon lol To have that followed with "Time Out From the World".....mushy Now that is the stuff that would save civilizations worship

This album is a well oiled machine. Alison has the voice of a goddess. She has definitely found her calling. This album is so gorgeous love I am so thankful that someone made a new wave album that really really matters mushy

It is my duty to post on every Goldfrapp thread on the org.

'Supernature' is easily my number 1 album of 2006. To hell with whatever other releases I haven't heard yet. I hope you got tix for one of their west coast shows, Supa.

Ditto. And last year, too.

It's the album Madonna SHOULD have made with Confessions, IMHO.

Oh, and Alison's voice is tonally reminiscent of Kate Bush's, but without that annoying squeakiness that sometimes mars her performances.

Hmmm. For me I feel that this album is a bit more enjoyable that the last...which I sorta got into. There is a sumptuousness that this album has over the last. But like the last album the songs are good, but they don't stick to me that well. They have a hard time being interwoven into my being like Human, Pilots, Utopia did. The only song that really got me was Time out from this world. I can get lost in that forever. As much as I like them, I feel as though they have lost some of their etherial quality and cashed some of that in for the electro beats and synths.

Not to say I don't like Goldfrapp, because I love them...I just appreciate them in a different way now..and still hold out for the etherial stuff.

See, I am really drawn to their etherial sound as well but at the same time, a song like Train fuckin rocks! headbang I love this album even though it's only got a sprinkling of etherialness.

I don't have either of their other albums. Just a few cuts from each.

Uhm, let's put it this way, Goldfrapp got a musical vision... Madonna has a large network, ask Stuart Price, if he doesn't pick up the phone or 'hangs up', call Nile Rodgers, Jellybean, Patrick Leonard, William Orbit or Tricky.

Now let's see, where is that topic saying 'most overrated artist/band' ??

Oh, by the way, she still looks HOT at her age, don't you think?

A friend and I were watching the music videos from the DVD and He made a comment about Madonna vs Allison...and Then you see Allison plucking a tune from a Ukelalie (sp) and I said..."As you were saying?"

I really think that when it comes down to it...Madonna is not overrated when it comes to her music. Even a hardcore fan will tell you that Madonna is not the best in that category. Her music will never ever be looked at or compared to in the same vein as Prince, Beatles or Bowie. No one has ever called her a musical genius.

They're not quite mainstream but Supernature apart from the previous 2 albums is leaning in that direction.
