Do You Ever Watch MTV's "Cribs"? Are rappers really making big money?

From time to time when I'm channel surfing, my remote control sometimes stops on MTV's "Cribs" since I love to see a nicely over the top decorated house and also make fun of someone who has no taste. lol

From what I've noticed, these rappers are either not making real big money or don't know how to spend what they've got. They spend their money on big screen movie size televisions with actual theater seats in the room. This is all fine and good if you live in a big ass over the top mansion. However, when they go outside, a lot of them live in a regular neighborhood. It's a nice neighborhood but nothing on the level that a big time "star" would be living in.

One of the rappers was showing off his swimming pool and the camera spotted an elderly neighbor being nosing and peeping over the fence. The rapper said that the neighbor is always complaining and making a fuss when they have pool parties. Why the hell would a big "star" be living close enough for a neighbor to be peeping over the fence? I bet you sure as hell can't peep over Prince or Madonna's fence. Then they always go to the garage and show off a fleet of cars. I've noticed the driveways and the surrounding houses. It's just a nice home in a neighborhood with neighbors next door and the home is not fenced behind gates or anything. Hell, you could just pull up in the driveway and honk if you wanted to. I bet you can't pull up in Prince or Madonna's driveway.

From some of the houses I've seen, they are nice houses but they sure as hell ain't "mansions". We have bigger "mansions" right here in the extremely rich sections of Mississippi.

I hate this show,it's absurd....a bunch of "hot" rappers showing off their homes.I just think that's tacky. The artists with the REAL money (Madonna,Paul McCartney, etc) would never appear on a show like this, bragging about what they got.

Rappers don't actually have that much money...didn't you see that video by The Roots? Leasing is where its at.

But the funny thing is, the things they are bragging about make them look rediculous and childish. Old cars from the 1970s and early 1980s souped up with rims, loud paint jobs, and mechanisms to make the cars jump up and down. They spend more souping the car up than the car is actually worth. It reminds me of when I was a teenager and got my first car which was a hooptie. As a typical teenager, I was saving my money for an expensive radio to put in the car instead of doing what I should have been doing, saving my money for a newer and better car. My mother laughed and talked about me like a dog. lol

They also like to show off the back seat or trunk of the car. They spend all this money on Playstations, Nintendos, or whatever the hell these games are called these days. Some of these men are in their thirties. lol

I remember when a stalking fan got caught scaling Madonna's fence. If some of these rappers had a stalker, all the stalker would have to do is pull up in the driveway and knock on the front door. lol

i smell, a hater who doesn't like hip hop, or rap music,

well since it is easier to make rap music, then any other genre, and since most rappers right their own lyrics, not like most of the pop masterpieces, who been in the industry for 30yrs and only wrote 3 songs there whole discography

I agree that respect should go to songwriters and musicians that have made singers successful because without good lyrics and music, a good voice means nothing.

However, lyrics (spoken ones at that) without real music in the background, is nothing but boring poetry. Or in this case, rediculous thugged out peotry.

Writing their own lyrics but paying half the royalties or more to whoever they sampled.

i saw Nelly on Cribs yesterday, showing off two houses and many cars,
i don't know. i don't mind them 'braggin' about their stuff but what
it came down to was that they hyped him up for half an hour and then
in the end he said "nelly is unstopable he is on top of the game, he
is the master, the zenith, the epitomy of rap fame blablabla"

after which they said his total $ is estimated at $ 30,000,000

biggrin

not bad, sure, but still lol. just goes to show how little these
people make off their records. Nelly is making commercial deals,
appearances, clothing lines and even drinks left right and center
and still he's only worth 30 mil with having sold 20 million cd's.

that's just wrong. 20 mil cd's times $7 = 140,000,000 imo.

not saying he deserves the money, i don't even want to get into
who should have what for how much work. but it is striking that
at least 110,000,000 did NOT go into his pocket. lol.

what i loathe most about these shows though, like VH1 celebrity
focus and all that shit is when a group of queens and ugly girl
columnists sit there and talk up 30 minutes of airspace about
how Justin Timberlake only washes his hair with shampoo that is
$ 3000.- per bottle.

i mean, wtf, hair is dead people, $2,- shampoo is just as good
as 3000,-.

or that other bozo from NSync who only drinks 700 dollar whiskey
or brandy when he goes out clubbing.

wtf are these people on? you could enjoy a good, even expensive
and "star worthy" (if you get off on that) meal and drink and
night out and still spend only a fraction of that amount of cash

how about donating 3000,- to get 200 kids their polio shots in
third world countries?

that shit makes me sick.

same thing with moviestars who DEBATE with companies over wether
they should get $ 20 mil for a movie or $ 25 mil. geez.
they should be ashamed of pocketing that money in the first place.
after you got 20 mil what more do you need? you coul make all
future movies and donate the money to housing and schooling and
feeding projects.

i know, i know, some stars do, but a lot of them don't. and that
is the only thing that ticks me off about these shows. the kind
of idolisation of people that make huge amounts of money and
spend it on stupid stuff they don't need in the first place.

who needs 10 cars? are you mad? how about rebuilding a TOWN in
asia that got whiped off the map, for probably less money than
that ugly lambourghini costs.

And I never doin Cribs, I ain't gonna have y'all fruitcakes
knowin how I live

LL Cool J – 1 in the Morning

I used to be really into Cribs because I like interiors in general but it was getting pretty redundant with the rappers. A lot of them had many of the same or similar things and styles. I really hate when they say stuff like, “I don’t know what it’s made out of but it cost me a lot of money.”

My favorite Cribs are:

Moby (finally, someone with books!)
Richard Branson (beautiful island home and Mariah lounging w/friends)
Hanson
Russell Simmons in Tribeca (niiice)
Russell Simmons in NJ (excess at it’s best)
Joseph Kahn
Kylie Bax (my dream home)
Macy Gray (hilarious)

Most irritating Crib moment was when Jermaine Dupri said “If you ain’t got one of these, then you ain’t nobody” I think it was a pimp goblet or some sort of car or rims. Can't remember.

I think some rappers are, some rappers aren't, and some rappers are but won't have it long. Those who produce the tracks are likely to be the ones with the real jack.

Best Cribs were Mariah's where she's doing the Stairmaster in platform heels and Russell Simmons', where Kimora shows the gaudy pad off: "And this is my _____ it cost _____ and here's my _____ it's so expensive". And then she ends off by showing us the one room in the house she allowed Russell to decorate lol

I sure wouldn't be surprised but if I was going to rent a house and put on a front, I be damned if I'd rent an average house. lol
