What's the difference between....

Techno, House, Jungle, Electronica, Trip Hop,Industrial and all of the various sub categories of what I essentially group as techno?

With industrial, I here it associated with NIN and Marilyn Manson, but I can not differentiate anything else.

Orgers, please explain smile

NIN and Marilyn Manson are as far from Industrial Music as Michael Jackson is from Electro-acoustic Improvisation. They are heavy metal / electronic rock bands.

Electronica is not a genre name, rather it it's an American mainstream definition from the late part of the 90s to group under a lot of electronic music that the wider audience had never heard of before. I guess you could even categorize all the genres you just mentioned under it.

Techno is these days an umbrella term that covers a lot of danceable eletronic genres. But basically "techno" as a more strict term is electronic dance music mainly concentrating on analog sounds and often is built around a stomping 4/4 bass drum figure.

Jungle is easier to distinct, altough most call it Drum'n'Bass these days. It originally consisted of sped-up acoustic drum loops laid on top of each other, and later transformed into a more chill-out form of dance music. Modern Drum'n'Bass has moved more and more towards typical techno.

Trip Hop is basically British hip-hop, with dark and/or psychedelic overtones. Many people would suggest the music tries to capture the feeling of being on drugs.

Industrial is a broad genre definition that contains all kinds of music from sheer abstract noise to ambient, and from distorted beats to sample-based orchestral compositions and even certain types of folk music. It is merely categorized as such by the use of "industrial sounds" (factory, building site -type of sounds). Most industrial people oust heavy metal bands like NIN from its area however, because they do not adhere to the industrial ideology of producing things outside the mainstream and have clear and distinct pop song structures. In most cases, rock guitar riffs in industrial are definitely something that will always question some band's inclusion in the genre.
