Rolling Stones - STICKY FINGERS

hell yeah. this is what rock and roll is all about, dammit. If I were to pick an album that perfectly encapsulates the concept of "sex, drugs & rock n' roll", it would be STICKY FINGERS.

Thoughts on this album? ? ? ?

cool cool cool cool

I would have to say that Can't You Hear Me Knockin' is rock n roll to me. It just doesn't get any sicker or raunchier or more cool than that. Why the Stones sounded so tough in the 70s: Mick Taylor's leads, all the way

Yeh really. Loved this original version of "Temptation".

A great album for the Stones to be sure. I think it's a tad more imbalanced than Beggars Banquet or Let It Bleed but you're absolutely right that songs like Brown Sugar, Bitch, Can't You hear Me Knocking ARE sex drugs and rock n roll. If only it wasn't so clearly divided between the "fast" and "slow" sides

I love Beggars Banquet, and Let It Bleed is my 2nd fave (or 3rd? Love Exile on Main Street also), but for me.... Sticky Fingers is the real deal. Such a nasty, drugged out album. I love side 2.. Sister Morphine, Dead Flowers, Moonlight Mile... all such great songs. And Side 1 is just down and dirty blues rock at its best.

I've been listening to this album all weekend! So fucking awesome cool cool

Dead Flowers

Dead Flowers is my favourite Stones song, possibly challenged on occasion by Tumbling Dice.

You can take your pick of the series from Beggars Banquet through Exile - each one has a legitimate case for being called the finest Stones album, though I do think that Let It Bleed is a little erratic. They were just a force of nature in that era. It's quite astonishing how it all came crashing to a halt with Goat's Head Soup. That must be considered one of the steepest declines in quality ever seen from one album to the next.

Clichéd choice it may be, but I still rank Exile as the mold for what a raw, pure rock album ought to be. Granted, it has more than a touch of fat on it, but even the throw-aways on that album have a density that no one's ever approached since.

I think this album is along with EXILE ON MAINSTREET and LET IT BLEED their BEST. Mick had his BEST EFFORTS in the BIANCA DAYS. WILD HORSES from STICKY and SISTER MORPHINE will DRIVE YA INSANE and MOONLIGHTMILE will take you to DREAMLAND.....

Totally great album. I've been listening to this one for so many years I can no longer keep track. It never gets stale. It sounds as fresh today as ever.

Yeah it's a smack n coke n pussy album alright. But then so's Some Girls. And Let It Bleed.

Excellent album. However, I prefer Exile.. I think that there is too mucho Mick Taylor on Sticky... to my taste at least...

Yeah. I heven't heard all their albums, but this is my favorite.

Moonlight Mile is so creative, but not weird or out of left field.

Brown Sugar is one of those songs that I simply never get tired of. By the last verse I'm always bobbing my head. God, it's so funky in a rock & roll kind of way.

Someone said it was originally titled "Black Pussy?" They make such horrible offensive stuff seem so fun. Not until Prince would that be repeated.

What other macho rock band could get away with that cover?

Exile is great, but it's a touger listen, what with Hip Shake Thing & Rip This Joint right in the beginning.

I agree about Exile - it is a much tougher listen. Sticky Fingers grabbed me immediately; it took much longer with Exile.
