I was listening to the Beatles, and I was looking at the cover to Sgt. Pepper. Not only is it a great album, but it's one of the greatest album covers of all time.



The follow up, Magical Mystery Tour, also has some of the Beatles' best songs on it, but the cover is one of the worst of all time.



The costumes, the cheesy pose, the stars, the ugly orange, bad graphics, and even the title are enough to justify all those Beatle haters' opinions!

What are some other great albums that could have used better cover shots?

These are a step down from Beatles music, but they're good and the covers suck.

The pegasus shot would have been better.

Abbey Road is a great cover, too. A classic.

Depeche Mode's art direction was usually excellent, but this one is just ugly:



After the iconic All That You Can't Leave Behind album cover, I think this one is just awful; it makes the band look old and washed up.



Again, Bowie's albums usually have excellent artwork, even when the contents aren't up to the same standards (Tonight, hours, etc...), but he definitely missed with this one:

UGH! A good Janet album with just a terrible cover...that wig make her look like she 40 tryin 2 be young or somethin.

This cover scared the crap outta me as a kid.
