Leon Ware co-produced some songs on Urban Hang Suite I think.

One of my topfave tracks Max did is " Sumthin' Sumthin' " , written by Leon .

Wherever he is he needs to return. Maxwell was destined to be one of the greats. UHS, Unplugged and Embrya showed great growth and versatility. Then fickle fans and Sony wanted a comfortable formula producing the lukewarm Now. I just wish he could get back to making music on his own terms, Maxwell was on some different shit!

I actually think Now was better than Embrya.

It's funny that someone posted the pic of 'I Want You' because I've always called 'The Urban Hang Suite' our generations' 'Let's Get It On'. As appreciated an album as it is (folks who love it, LOVE IT), it really is underappreciated by the same token. The easiest thing in the world to do would have been to follow it up with 'The Urban Hang Suite Part 2', but he went in a completely different direction with 'Embrya'. Wonderful, wonderful artist who may need to release an album every 5 or 6 years, ala' Sade, to be truly respected.

how so? After an artistic record like Embrya, Now just seemed like a step backward and too safe

And see, to me, it seemed like he went back on course with "Now." See, some artists have a tendency to try "new shit" after they blow up off their 1st offering. They get a bit pretentious and sometimes it backfires and in Maxy's case that was how I saw Embrya - Basically outtakes from UHS with some "trippy" feel to it. "Now" was a return his roots so to speak.

It's not so much the fact that the music is negative because of it's homosexual energy. I think there's negativity surrounding it. The record company refuses to release it because it sounds too gay. That's pretty negative.

I know someone very well who has played with and written songs with Maxwell....and I gotta say he has never said anything about Maxwell being gay. I have met Maxwell twice and sat in on a jam session...and while he was not the most masculine brother...I didn't get a gay vibe...of course that means nothing

In any case hope all of the rumor is just garbage and a killer record is on the way
[Edited 4/24/06 18:55pm]

I also know a couple of cats who played on record and toured with him... These guys never said anything either, but who knows, who cares. Yo. R U from D.C. by any chance? Who R your friends that played with Maxwell?

Peace.

What does everyone mean by "out" rumors? Also the last time I saw Maxwell at a public appearance I could've sworn he was attending a fashion show sitting next to Britney Spears. This has been a couple of years ago before Kevin and the baby. I could be wrong.

Well.....er I used to see max and this white dude who wore pimp ass white linen suits with really colorful brim hats, in and around L.A. all the time. This dude had more sugar in the tank than the sugar on my donuts. He looked quite a bit like Elton John. I believe someone told me he owned a bunk of ice skating rinks or something. That was around 1996-1997.

Anybody with any kind of sense doesn't care, I know that.
Like you said, bring on the music man.
As I said, UHS and Embrya are masterpieces and are two of my fave albums in the last ten years. And I buy/listen to alot of music. Now was kinda weak to me but I'd still take it over 90% of the stuff that's popular. Now sounded rushed and unrealized in some parts. Just when a song started getting that Max vibe the song would end. I dunno just my opinion.
I think if Max is able to follow his true vision, whatever that is, we will have a great album.
Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

I agree. I hope I didn't give the impression that I believed that Maxwell was gay and that his new album "sounds gay" because that was not my intention. I was just answering a question within the context of the comment that I quoted

When I said I thought I saw him with Britney I wasn't completely sure because I was watching E News, the part with Ted and "The Awful Truth" and when they showed Britney at this fashion show all they mentioned was her name, not Maxwell, but the guy sitting next to her with this white hat on looked like Maxwell and this was during his hiatus(which is still going on now)when you hadn't heard his name in a while, but you was hearing her name all over the place. It was around 02/03
