its gotta go to madge....
its the equivelant of declaring Ron Howard as a master filmmaker. Sure, you got awards and a bunch of hits but....its all just a bit too calculated and "pop" culture to be anything other then mainstream fodder. Space for sale...

Madonna and MJ. Fans of them 2 will damn near kill you if you even come close to dogging them. It can be funny and scary all at once. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Not necessarely overrated, I just wonder why MJ, Madonna fans find it a must posting it on Prince.org.
If I wanna know about them I will check their forums, so stop bothering us with those Jackson related & Madonna threads. Rather inform me about (new) artists I haven't heard of. In fact I think topics about these artists should seriously be removed from now on. In return I will post at least one topic a day about Milli Vanilli, wonder how long that will last before it will be removed.

Control and Rhythm Nation were fantastic. I kept waiting for something equally special afterwards and finally gave up when I saw the soulless, overblown monstrosity that was The Velvet Rope tour. Also, after she split up with Rene Elizondo who had been secretly writing much of the material and coming up with concepts without credit, it was noticable that the quality of the songwriting went right through the floor. I have heard very few lyrics as piss poor as hers in recent years. Also I think the Superbowl incident really underlined how desperate and empty she is. It was as equally pathetic as the Britney, Xtina and Madge lesbo stunt.

OOOOO no Janet She's been propped up by so many people. MJ is probably the most talented out of the 3, but Madonna's done more with less. Not a true songwriter in the bunch, though.

This is very true. I recently checked into the Ray Of Light thread and found myself really having to hold back when some of them tried defending themselves 'cos I didn't want to hurt their feelings, but all I can say is...DAMN!

Steven Spielberg is commercial to the core, he's still a greater director and producer! Madonna and MJ leave janet standing! Madge and MJ have co-written the book on pop superstardom, and the ability re-invent and outlive nearly every other artist. Janet isn't even in the same league! .

We've had some thread about Rob & Fab...And They were never removed! Have you ever heard of freedom of expression or taste??? Guess it's better to like the lamest emo or alternative college bands that sound like u2 meets the cure meets the monkeys!!!! Come on! Don't be so "tight". We should cherish diversity! So Hitchcock sucks because he didn't do an epic WWII movie? There's nothing inherently wrong with being commercial and Spielberg didn't suddenly become a better director when he did The Color Purple or Schindler's List. There's no need to defend anything Spielberg has done vs. Howard. It's apparent to anyone with a passing knowledge of film. One is an auteur and one is a craftsman.

MJ threads are the most fun to read. The level of devotion to him that still remains is always fascinating to me.

i'm gonna draw a lot of flack for it, but...
prince. he has been so hit or miss since the mid-90s, and i am always amazed that there are people on here who will aangrily defend and lash out if you even suggest that several of the last few albums might have had some clunkers on them Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. - Lord Acton

Not to diss anyone who has managed to stay in the "business" for 20 plus years but Madonna is WACK. She was weak from day one and is the product of good business sense and whom ever her producer is. PERIOD.

No offense, but you do realize that this is the Music:Non Prince forum, don't you? If certain artists are getting more attention than others,it's simply because alot of Orgers want to discuss them.Without question,Michael Jackson and Madonna are the two most popular artists in this forum. If you're tired of seeing threads on them, start your own threads on artists that YOU would rather discuss.Introduce your fellow Orgers to artists that you think should be discussed/analyzed.

My whole point was that supposedly serious movies have no intinsically higher value than popcorn films. If they did, film criticism probably wouldn't exist.

Michael.
Good points above regarding talent level vs. overratedness (Michael is/was the most talented of the three), but nobody's ever claimed that Janet is a better piano player than Prince, or that Madonna REALLY REALLY DOES play guitar well and post a bunch of pictures to prove it. I don't think if either got as much plastic surgery as Michael that anyone would defend their looks and still say they were just so beautiful. Nobody has ever claimed Madonna has helped humanity with "Like a Prayer" or that Janet gave us a real history lesson with "Rhythm Ration." Nobody's ever said that Prince was a "poor man's Madonna/Janet" Michael was a great talent, but the things that you read on this site about him to this day are mind blowing. It makes me understand how Michael can still think he's okay when more objective regular people can think he's okay. My Legacy
