D'Angelo - Brown Sugar or Voodoo?

I've never heard either of these albums in their entirety, and was wondering which was better. The consensus is obviously BS is the superior, but I wondered what everyone thought.

So which is it? I'm gonna go and get one (or both) depending on how you lot rate them cool

Brown Sugar is better. VooDoo was BooBoo for the most part. That half-speak mumble of his got on my damn nerve. He was full of himself and you could tell from the liner notes that Saul wrote on him. D' is/was so caught up in being the next "Prince" that he forgot who he was in the process.

It's official, an import from Japan when he was in the UK I believe.

the live disk is the same format as his first album... so I'm not crazy about it.

I didnt like the first one as much since it sounded programmed..

I like the loose feeling, and negative space in voodoo.. very mysterious

If u take the edited version of Left & Right.. the album flows better... The rappin is cool, but it takes a timeless feel from it.

It's called 'live at the jazz cafe' , recorded in London and released 2 times as Jap. import, the 2nd time as a 7 tr instead of 6 track with 'Heaven Must Be Like This' as bonustrack.

All directly mastered in cd format without overdubs. Angie Stone is among the background vocalists in the band.

Also E,W & F cover of 'Can't Hide Love' , great song!!

d"Angelo plays keyboards throughout the whole concert, opposite to his 2nd Voodoo tour, which was much more in JB/Prince/Clinton style with totally re-arranged stadium compatible structure..

Nice cd, but pricy!

co-sign, sdl

Voodoo is betta! And not just for D'Angelo; I swear that's at the height of everyone's creative powers in the Soulquarians too.

For me, Voodoo would have to be the best. With this album, he gets a little more depper and funkier than ever and puts more depth in the production than Brown Sugar. It's feels like a long and sweaty jam session in the summer. That's what I like about it.
