I have 40 Licks, which I think is a good overview of the Stones' career.

Off the top of my head, the hits CDs I listen to the most are:

Parliament: Tear the Roof Off 1976-80
Funkadelic: Music For Your Mother/Funky 45s
Jaco Pastorius: Anthology
David Bowie: The Singles 1969-1993
Queen: Platinum Collection
Frank Zappa: Strictly Commercial (Though not so much anymore since I've accumulated his collection of releases pretty thoroughly now)
Boney M Gold : 20 Super Hits cool cool cool cool
Jimmy Buffett: Songs you know by heart.

Generally, I like to get cohesive albums more than hits, but some hits CDs (like the Zappa one, for example), have done an amazing job of making me invest a lot of money into my music collection.

I also think, as a great hits set, The Hits/The B-Sides is among the better compilations out there. It has some great stuff that isn't easy to get any other way, and that's always a plus

The Cult

Pure Cult-For Rockers, Ravers, Lovers And Sinners

This is a great "best of". And it's interesting the way it's sequenced, they sound like a completely different band from one track to the next.

Sometimes, I think we have the same music collection. I suggest this one:

Got it and love it, but I don't play it often. I'm a pretty huge Depeche fan, so I play the albums more.

However, I play this one quite a bit:

Marvellous collection by Dionne Warwick Her All-Time Greatest Hits

Sly Anthology maybe the best introducción to his music.

And I love this collection of Greatest Hits by Earth, Wind & Fire

A few more:

Squeeze - Singles 45's and Under

The Best of Morrissey

Cyndi Lauper - 12 Deadly Cyns...and then Some

The Best of the Doors

Duran Duran - Greatest

With most of my favorite artists, even though I own the Greatest Hits, I don't really play them very often. So albums like U2's 1980-1990, REM's In Time, Prince's Hits/B-Sides, Gabriel's Shaking the Tree don't really get many spins from me. However, they would all stand up with the albums I've already listed.
