Dulli's music to me is a existential astral car crash but on the way to oblivion In the car with his naive femme fatale partner Greg intuitively knows his fate so he dumps gasoline all over the interior of the car while he is gunning down the highway & lights the cig, he is literally torched in his own impending destiny to the afterlife.
He pulls no punches even to himself.


and that's as it should be.

One of the best songwriters/musicians of our time. Have you heard his cover of "Hyper Ballad"? Only Dulli.... only Greg would think of that shit

listening to some new stuff now... 'underneath the waves' ..very 80's feel, very nice!

There aren't enough badasses like Dulli left in the world.

If any of you out there haven't seen this guy live, I recommend checking him out. I don't think there's an equivalent artist I'm aware of who has better fused Soul and R&B into rock music...

And yea, i heard a little of the new stuff as well,boozoo. It's hard not to download it on P2p network. But I will wait I guess. It sounds like a solid followup. I heard Forty Dollars and Bonnie Brae.

I hear the Gutter Twins record is coming in the fall or spring. Thats the collab record with Shane Lanegan from Screaming Trees. Not to get you guys in a tizzy over it. But Greg's release schedule is pretty consistent if he says something is ready.


So I'd say Fall 06 or Spring 07 at the latest.

Greg Dulli's included numerous nods to Prince in his music...especially live. The Afghan Whigs would perform an impressive cover of ICNTTPOYM or When Doves Cry...and for the obscurists out there, he would quote a little Le Grind with 'Goin' to Town'.

The Twilight Singers' DVD is OK...feels almost like a bootleg. It's worth the soul-crushing take on Abba's Dancing Queen...

Rent or buy Beautiful Girls and see them in a few bar scenes performing..then get the soundtrack for their song and their cover of Barry White's Cant Get Enough of Your Love

frankly speaking, i think that the twilight singers in their groovies moments make some of the best neo-soul around. far surpasses some of the over done stuff that so called "soul artists" do. as is the case with George Micheal in his less wanky moments( ).. . . some times "blue-eyed soul" is just better than the , erm "black people" soul.

All I ever heard was that one popular Afghan Whigs album...wasn't crazy about it, but it sounds like his other stuff is worth hearing...is it different?
