The Nike commercials with Bootsy jamming in the Funky League, and the Rhino Bootsy compilation are awsome!

All Prince fans should buy "Glory B, the Funk's on Me!" cd set of Bootsy; he's the anti-Prince in that he does not take himself seriously at all.

Boy, that is how Prince would score big time: jam to a Captain Crunch commercial!

I think in it's own way, "Emancipation" is as good as "Sign o' the Times".

Prince is just as good as he has always been; aside from 1997-1999. Weak. What is a two year period of weak output? Nothing!
Last 10 years: "Symbol", "Gold Experience", "Emancipation", "The Truth", "Rainbow Children": all good quality efforts!

The contractual obligation lp's "The Vault", "Come", "The Black Album" actually have some interesting moments all over, for tossaways!

You can have "Chaos and Disorder", "Newpower Soul", and "Rave". But even a great songwriter like Paul McCartney has "Give My Regards to Broadstreet" and "Press to Play" in his catalog!

Prince's Freedom has come at a price: he is no longer a blip on the media radar screen, which means that most of the world is unaware of "Rainbow Children", and maybe that is where frustrated fans believe he is a has been, but he is as talented as ever-even more so, but his self-destructive eccentricities get in the way of the great music getting out of the vaults. So what.

Bootsy and Prince should collaberate!

I' Pimpy, KEEPING IT REAL! CHEW IT!

he was 16 when he started with JB. he was the first bass player of the JBs. he was flown in from cincinnati with his group after james had fired his entire band around maceo right before a gig back in 1970. they got on stage and played with JB as they have never done anything else.

Bootsy is everything Prince has ever tried to be. He's a greatly prolific composer
(his contributions to P-FUNK are insurmountable) and a major presence on bass
and multi-instrumentalist (plays keys, guitars and drums as well). He was nasty
sexy smooth before PRINCE or THE TIME "What's A Telephone Bill?" is as much
about phone sex as "Darling Nikki" is about masturbation.

Bootsy is much more real than Rogers Nelson. He leaves his persona on stage
and will talk to people devoid of his showbiz schtick.

Is anybody 'round hereup on ZILLATRON: LORD OF THE HARVEST?
That's some wild stuff

I love Bootsy--I just visited Seattle and I went to the new Experimental Music Project Museum and they had a pretty good funk "ride." Naturally, Bootsy and JB were all over it. I loved it. I think I saw Geneva dancing in the background as well. They also had on display his Bootzilla glasses, and they had him on a voiceover that was pretty interesting.

Apparently you haven't been to a Prince concert in a long time where people are surprised he's actually 'real' during the open sound checks long before thousands enter the venue. Apparently you haven't been to his traditional 7 day Celebrations annually where he is known to mingle amongst a few average Joes, where he is known to allow social/musical workshops in his building, recruit community leaders to host/speak at these workshops, etc... apparently you didn't know that he allowed average Joes into his place in Minne to discuss the themes to his music prior to his album release. And there's nothing Prince has ever tried aside from hip hop and acting that he hasn't succeeded at that Bootsy has. To think he hasn't, like I said, apparently you haven't been to one of his live shows in a long time. Bootsy is so real he performs on commercials for a shoe company that uses sweatshop conditions to produce their shoes. Sounds like Kathy Lee Gifford type real.

My last Prince gig was HIT & RUN at Palladium. 2001.
You think the NIKE shoe commecrcial was Bootsy speaking to me?
LOL you're quite daff to think that!

My point was that Bootsy makes a distinction between his stage persona
and his real identity in interviews, while Prince comes off very fake to me.
Maybe you have a point. Perhaps if I paid more money to go to see PRince
perform I'd get to know him better. I'd also be broke in the process, but it's all
part of getting to know him, eh? wink

As we said on Sly Stone thread, Bootsy's first two albums at least are in definite need of remastering too! C'mon Warner bros...

Yeah Bootsy is great, very very underrated. His contributions with James Brown, Parliament, Funkadelic and Bootsy's Rubberband are enormous. I played Bootsy's Greatest hits for a buddy and he was like who's this dude trying to sound like Prince. I was like naw man this is the real funk here ,the cat Prince was borrowing from. Only time he ever experienced funk on that level was from Prince.
P-Funk was more of a freaky black experience back in the day.

Both James Brown and George Clinton owe alot to the Boot. His time is coming back around. It looks like his label is setting him up like Santana was done a few years back. If you haven't heard his last lp Fresh Outta P University check it out. The German release is the best(Box Set). Warner Bros. didn't promote it, they slept on it. But someone over there recognised what they had and now they pimpin' him hard.

Bootsy is the shit. If he tours check him out, it jams hard.
It's rumored he may be with GC and the P-Funk on August 17th at the Comerica Park in Detroit, Stadium show. P-Funk's set is billed as a tribute to Bootsy. With Mary J. Blige, Ja Rule, Teena Marie, Frankie Beverly, Tweet, Musiq Soul Child and more.

Bootsy was Considered Too Black&it's a Damn Shame the Only way He can Get Half a Blink is through Dee-Lite 12 Years back&Now Tired&Pimped Out Snoop Dogg.I got Outta P University back in 98.cool track with MC Lyte.Bootsy never went away He just got tied to His Image&got Sleeped on.Not Many Folks Can Funk Like Bootsy.Bootsy got the same Problem as Jesse Johnson had IMHO: His Musical Talent&Depth Killed Off by Association.in a Fair World everybody would notice The Talent.

PFJ is basically on point with this assessment..

Prince is "Prince" all the time, & that's not necessarily a good thing. Bootsy- back in the day- realized that he couldn't be all the time this "Bootsy" character he had created; it wore him out, it created problems with other people in his circle.. THEN he got into drugs for a while & really got off base (no pun intended)..
but of course Bootsy has to get credit for getting his act together & getting back out there & spreading the funk the way it needs to be spread..

people who aren't into the funk (like those of us who are).. they don't realize how POWERFUL the funk can be. I mean, really. Funk is DEEP funk is powerful, it definitely gets stronger. Funk is so deep in me, I couldn't get it out of me now, even if I wanted to (& I DON'T)..
Funk is something, it has been something that has not only given me all kinds of musical highs, but it has been a biginfluence on the way I act, think, dress..
like I said-
funk is POWERFUL
& I have an ETERNAL debt of gratitude to BOOTSY for getting me into the funk when I was but 8 years old...

I see "Zillatron" in the stores every now & then..
I suppose I should get the nerve to buy a copy of it. Some of y'all here say it's pretty "out there".. it's hard for me to imagine Bootsy doing stuff that's more "out there" than he (generally) already does, but I'll check it out & see..

BOOTSY:
KEEP THE FUNK ALIVE
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..
