why have the music critics never rated billy joels work?

i have never understood why music critics have never rated billy joels work....yes he can be corny and some of his rock songs have been a bit embarrassing but he is one of the best songwriters of the 20th century in my view and his best albums like 'the stranger' and 'an innocent man' are damn near perfect!!.....whats going on?
