Share Your Funny Stories About People Getting Confused About Music Older people can be hilarious when they get confused. I spent every weekend, holiday, and summer with my grandmother growing up. She's the one that bought me all my records growing up so I would be entertained at her house.
I remember riding down the road with her one time and the motorcycle at the beginning of The Gap Band's "Burn Rubber" came on with the screeching brakes. She slammed on her brakes and swerved ove to the side because she thought someone was screeching from behind and was going to hit her. Another time, I was listening to the 12 Inch version of The Gap Band's "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" in my room with the sirens blaring. When I came out, she and my uncle were looking outside because they thought it was the tornado sirens. My favorite was when I was listening to Prince's "Do Me, Baby". The screams were my favorite part so I used to blast them. She opened up my door and hollered...."Good lord, turn that shit down! That bitch sounds like somebody's choking her to death!". Anyway, those are some of my funny stories, what are some of yours? Andy is a four letter word.

My former boss who is well into her 50s, thought she was really cool when it came to Hip Hope/rnB music. She was discussing Monica and Brandy's "the Boy is mine" and then she went on to say .."they have got another one out now called...Bills, Bills, Bills"...I didn't have the heart to tell her she was talking about wrong artists

This was back in '87 when my dad, who really hated Prince 4 some would say the obvious reasons, walked in2 the livin' room where I was playin' Adore. A normally loud man became suspiciously quiet. It was clear that the music caught his full attention. When it ended he asked, "who was that?". I said Prince & his face kinda looked like . Then he went on askin', "OK, so who did all the backin' vocals?". 1ce again I said Prince. His eyes became even bigger. He said it was just impossible. So many voices comin' from just 1 person! He just couldn't/wouldn't believe it. Tho he stayed 2 damn proud 2 admit likin' the song or any other song by Prince (he really just LOVED 2 hate him!)....the look on his face spoke more than a 1000 words.

People always ask me are my records or the CD player broken if I put something more decent music on in my home. The "this is music?"-line has often been heard as well.

I used to know this girl who was pretty smart but not with music unfortunately. So one day (it was 2003 mind you) are listening to the radio and Kylie's 'I should be so lucky' comes on. To my surprise my friend gets strangely excited and says with sincerity: "OMG! Kylie's new single is on fire!!! I wonder if the video is already out?!?"
Needless to say I almost died out of laughter. About 15 minutes later Prince comes on with 'When Doves Cry'. So I take the opportunity to laugh some more and ask her whether the video to this cut is already out. She gets kind of angry and replies: "Ok, Ok Get over it...everybody knows that this song was recorded years ago by Queen. I almost choked with my Coke I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt.

Cruising around town, my friends blasting Minor Threat's 'Out of Step'. I asked them who it was (while the music was still blaring) - I spent the next couple weeks in record stores trying to find the latest "Iron Thread" EP. I never found it. "I got the devil in me, girl." - 'John the Baptist', Afghan Whigs

Ever listened to "Lo-Fi India Abuse" by Muslimgauze? Real broken! Nope. I've only listened to a few Muslimgauze records. I don't plan to listen to all 200 of them.

Let's see... I was shopping with my friend and "The Glamorous Life" came on inside the store. My friend said to me, "Jill - it's Sheena E!" I have another friend who once said, "The club played lots of Prince songs - "Erotic City," "Delirious," and "Oh, Sheila." Because most of my friends and acquaintances know how much I like Prince, they typically want to talk about him when the subject of music comes up (which is nice, I think!). Often times, folks tell me that "Oh, Sheila" is one of their favorite Prince songs. Mostly, people confuse Sheila E with Sheena Easton.
Oh, and this kid Daniel, who grew up on the same block as me, he thought that Ed Zepplin was Roger Plant's name and that the band was named after him. He also thought Aero Smith was Steven Tyler's name. I miss Daniel. "She made me glad to be a man"
