Madonna "Truth Or Dare"---yay or nay? Whenever Madonna announces a tour,I spend weeks listening to all of her CDs and watching all of her movies.Hyping myself up for the Big Show. The other day,I pulled out "Truth Or Dare",which I had not seen in awhile.I had forgotten how outrageous this film is It's alot of fun to watch, capturing Madonna backstage on her 1990 "Blond Ambition Tour".There are alot of cool concert clips ("Live To Tell" and "Oh Father" are incredible),and it's interesting to see exactly what goes on behind-the-scenes of a major world tour....the media circus that follows Madonna everywhere she goes....the various dramas that her dancers go through....Madonna's interaction with family members and friends. It's really an entertaining film. What are your thoughts/memories of this movie?

loved it! it's been a very long time since i've seen it last though.
all i can really remember is that cool different version of Like a Virgin and Madonna sitting on the couch with her legs parted eating soop while she's yapping on the phone. she was so butch back then and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

A very different version, indeed One of the best parts in the film is when Madonna nearly gets arrested right before her Toronto shows. Her performance featured ALOT of crotch grabbing and simulated masturbation during "Like A Virgin".The cops warned her to "tone it down",but being the rebel that she is,she refused.I like when she asks one of her backup singers "Where else am I nasty?" and they replied "You're nasty through the entire show!",lol.

it is, without question, better than Im Going To Tell You A Secret. The concert footage is fantastic, although i cant believe they only included the amazing footage of Like A Prayer in the limited edition release.....WTF?!?!? That is the ULTIMATE madonna performance!
Most fans still consider this tour her ultimate spectacle, and I feel this documentary (if you can call it that.....2hrs of blatant exhibitionism is closer to the point) simply enhances the spectacle. For me this showed madonna to be everything we hoped she was. A Diva, outrageous, stroppy, pretentious, funny, vulnerable, sensitive, self depricating, somebody with such energy and enthusiasm for life its contageous. It may not be a completely true reflection of who she is/was, I believe she only revealed as much as she wanted to - and i dont believe that was too much, but i do find it fascinating to this day.

The first time I saw this film,I was scared of Madonna I didn't know how much of this was "the real Madonna",and how much of it was a put-on,but she comes across as very intriguing,to say the least. We get to see many sides of her personality in this film but most of all,we see her as a driven, determined woman who is also very vulnerable. . This movie was absolute magic. For me it marked the last golden moment of her original run of success. It was all downhill from here. I think she's now officially the most irritating woman in the world.

I remember I had 2 make my Mom go with me 2 the theatre because it was Rated R and I was only 16 when it came out. I LOVED it then and now. Alek Keshishian did a phenominal job on the concert footage. It was amazingly well shot and cut. Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917

one of her top 5 projects EVER. love it. love "Keep It Together" performance...that's about the funkiest she ever got. love when she's incessantly spraying her throat and yelling "fuck fuck fuck motherfuck" at her sound guy. love when she goes off on one of her dancers while playing truth or dare--"You ain't asking the question MUTHAFUCKA." I miss that Madonna. IGTTYAS blew balls in comparison.
Top 5 Madonna projects EVER: 1. "Erotica" album 2. "Girlie Show" tour 3. "Truth or Dare" movie 4. "Rain" video 5. "Bedtime Stories" album ...IMHO of course I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

i still enjoy it. a lot.
and madonna once said she doesn't like to repeat herself. she should have stuck to this concept because i'm going to tell you a secret was a boring exhibit of madonna's life. and i just can't bare to listen to her pontificate on things political. truth or dare was a really fun, exciting movie. even when i watch it now i'm amazed at the person madonna was and has become.

Totally Yay. This film was monumental for me as a Madonna fan for a lot of reasons, but it is just as entertaining now as it was then. Incidentally, it was also the last time she toured in Houston or any other Texas city (I'm on a Madonna boycot until she tours the cities of Texas).
Anyway some of the more memorable lines for me were: "We're going to jail, I'm so excited". "Come in only if you're a man" "I'll have to learn how to freak spench in English" "To fashion, to love....lamore" "OUCH...who she think she is, my momma? Snatchin' on my head like she in the kitchen" "I think I got my period". "WOOOOO, work girl, congratulations doll". "Madonna drops Beatty for a black dancer"- I never understood why race was included in the headline of that paper. Announcer- "Who choreographed that Like A Virgin number?(Donna)- who do you think? (announcer) WARREN BEATTY!!!! I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

This was one of the only times I've ever dug Holiday. I really like the re-done Like a Virgin and Keep It Together too. Plus, 1990 Madonna was so much FUN, even when she was such a hardcore bitch.
Seeing as 2006 is the 15th anniversary of Truth or Dare, I'm thinking that they should re-release it as a 2 disc DVD with the entire Blond Ambition concert as the second disc. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

I ain't changin' my fuckin' show! i so loved that part. i used to rewind the tape (god we're old) constantly and my parents got so used to it that they really didn't see what the whole pooha was about getting her arrested because "she made such a beautiful version of the song" lol. i said "it's not the song, it's the show people" and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

that would be fuckin' amazing! The paris show featured in the documentary was awesome. Of all the concerts Ive seen this is the strongest. She had terrible voice problems throughout this tour (mainly because she was pushing herself so far physically), and from the american leg and most of the European leg her voice was almost hoarse. These paris shows, her singing is fantastic (like the Japan broadcast), and the performance is much more polished, yet has a more relaxed feel about it (like the Nice broadcast), plus it doesnt have the technical fuck ups the Japanese shows did (although my bootlegs suggest she had some mic problems). More than that the direction, editing and photography are just classier and more interesting. Its shot on proper film, and just looks amazing. I pray pray pray her people will see sense and release this footage as it must be lying around somewhere. They cut the whole concert like this so its not like it would take a massive effort ot put it out. I know the petition that was done to get this and the Virgin tour released, was requesting that the full paris show(s) were the version released, but how much notice they will have taken, who can tell.

I gotta see that Paris footage!! When Maddy finishes her upcoming tour,I really wish her next major project would be the long-rumored multi-CD box set,and DVDs of her past tours.Like Prince, she's always too focused on new projects, totally neglecting her past.

Well Ive only seen as much footage as is in the film (plus Like A Prayer and Hanky Panky from the limited edition - both are amazing), but ive got audio bootlegs form the paris Bercy shows, and you can tell they didnt even alter her voice as Id initially assumed. Its strong and sweetly pitched throughout - she must have been having a good day. I cant actually watch the Nice show her vocals are that bad to me, even though the preformance is cool.

Yay. It's very entertaining and it's the Madonna I always thought she'd be. Madonna was in a zone at that time and this film is the perfect example of what was up with her at the time. [Edited 4/19/06 16:13pm] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
