This is such a vocal performance. I wonder if he could ever repeat it after that recording?

Kind of like Rubber Soul era Beatles. Not yet fully free or fully formed in an artistic sense, but the pop was just about as good as it ever got.

Heaven is 10 zillion light years away

That one just takes my breath away. And I never hear anybody talk about it. Can anyone tell me if this song plays during the rolling credits of Jungle Fever?

Also "All Day Sucker." That's my jam.

It's the unbridled joy and enthusiasm of the performances that gets me.

Definitely for You Met Your Match!

I just realized I made that comparison, and We Can Work It Out is from both of those eras. Must have been a subconscious thing.

This is probably going to seem like an odd choice, but Tuesday Heartbreak is my favourite Stevie song. I'm sure it seems like a slight, minor song, especially when you compare it to other things he's done, but I just absolutely adore it. Every time I hear that track I just get completely swept up by it.

the rest:

Uptight
You Haven't Done Nothin'
Ordinary Pain
Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing
Misstra Know It All
Higher Ground (it shows that I've spent a lot of time with Innervisions, doesn't it...)
We Can Work It Out
Superstition
Jesus Children of America

The mid 60s to early 70s stevie is pure ear candy. Not as depth or variety as 70s streak, but always thoroughly and instantly enjoyable

I wish he would jam in concert. Prince does more of that kind of thing. Stevie can play it a bit safe, at times.

well, stevie used to jam more in the 70s. If you can get your hands on some of his 70s rare live albums like the Rainbow theater, Brighton, or Live in NYC 1975, he would add uptempo speed-bop sections to some songs or interpolate some new grooves in them. The live versions of contusion on these albums were some GREAT jazzy jamming.
