Cat Power

Anyone like Cat Power/Chan Marshall? I just got a ticket for her rescheduled U.S. spring tour with the Memphis Rhythm Band. I have her 'Moon Pix' and 'You Are Free' albums, but not the latest one which I might pick up this weekend. I've never seen her live so I don't know what to expect.

I know next to nothing about them, but I've had 'The Greatest' album on heavy rotation at work. I can't get the title track out of my head...

Not having heard anything before this album, I'll just say that it's pretty subdued but beautiful...not much up-tempo music here.

That's how she is in general--very downbeat. The new band with whom she recorded the new album should liven things up a bit live.

i love her. i've had all of her cds at some point or other.

are my favorites. i'm not completely sold on 'the Greatest', her recent one. It's spotty and a little awkward in parts.

she's usually very much to herself in performance. she doesn't interact with the audience very much and has been known to melt down and leave the stage. generally what you hear on her records is what you get on stage.

have fun thumbs up! tells how it went.[img]

I love the song "He War". That guitar melody is constantly going through my head--very hypnotic.

I just bought 'The Greatest' at Tower Records during lunch, but I have to take it back tonight, beacuse the cashier charged me full-price even though there was clearly a sale sticker on the front and I didn't notice until I checked the receipt when I got back into the office. Grrr. And some of the other stuff I bought wasn't marked as onsale even though they were (I had asked beforehand). They are very disorganized at Tower today.

I adore What would the community and Moon Pix, but for me also the last album was a bit of a disappointment. It still sounds good, it she lost the edge of her former works, though Love and communication and the title track are still awesome. But I recommand Batysphere ... God what a grand track

If you like Cat Power, then try Shannon Wright (especially Portray and Throw a blanket over the sun) ... you'll adore her as well!
