revisiting Björk's "Medulla"

snowflake

so now that you've had more than a year to let it
sink in, what do you think of it?

i remember people either really loved it or hated
it when it was released.

so has time and repeated spinning of the album in
the past year made you change your mind?

i'm listening to it right now for the first time
in a few months and i love it more and more every
time i hear it.

Never 'got' that album but pulled it out only a couple of days ago and enjoyed it. I've said it before but the 'Where Is The Line' video is just about the most bizarre thing she's done which is no small feat!

The Medulla videos DVD made me appreciate the album a LITTLE more...I like "Triumph of the Heart" now that I can associate it with a giant dancing kitty...but it's not an album I go back to very often, if ever. I get cravings for her other albums now and then, but not so much this one.

I was KIDDING when I said she could use bodily functions for her album. razz

BUt honestly, It was ok. A bit hard for me to digest. I thought that Vespertine and Homogenous were good directions to go in. Keeping it all really edgy but still have song structure, which I found Medulla to be lacking.

After initially being very disinterested in medulla, I eventually went through a 4 week phase when I loved it. That ended and I haven't played it, or had any desire to play it since.

It was good for what it as but I don't know that I'll ever find my way back to it.

i've just had "vökuró" on repeat for half an hour
and it felt like some hybrid mantra trickling in,
as i finished my work.

after that i listened to "Desired Constellation"
with all the lights off.

that's still my fav song off the album. i rank it
among her best work ever. it is such a beautiful,
serene and heartfelt song.

and the lyrics are just w.o.w.

I was looking forward to it at the time then absolutely 100% EVERYONE, even Bjork fanatics said it was weak.

Is "Oceania" or whatever on it? That olymipics joint.

yup. it is. actually, i thought you might kinda like the
album with the beatboxin' on it and all. it's really not
as bad as people make it out to be.

ok, it's no Vespertine but it's still a thoroughly good
and well composed/executed album imo

I think I see a pattern developing...not liking the new Bjork album when it first comes out but then having a TOAD breakthrough in the future.

Am I right?
