Dated Sounding Music Anyone? Personally I love it when music sounds old and dated. Especially when it's from the 80's. I think 80's music sounds more current than 90's music personally. How important is it for you guys to hear fresh sounding beats?

i dont mind if it sounds retro just as long as used in a unique way...like Gwen Stefani's "The Real Thing" or that one song on Van Hunt's new cd that has a new wave style to it. Space for sale...

how is the van hunt cd? which track sounds new wave on it? i just think in general i'm stuck in the 80's. so i love when i hear 80's sounds. i hated music in the 90's. i think the 70's was a good time for music too.

I love dated and/or "cheesy sounding" music. Usually if it's cheesy, it's most likely upbeat or has a non-standard rhythm and that appeals to me. Songs like Irene Cara's "What A Feelin'!" Matthew Wilder's "Break My Stride" and Janet's "Dream Street" are wonderful to me because of how trapped in the '80s they are! Album = song. [Edited 4/14/06 12:46pm]

See i'm not the only one who appreciates old, dusty, dated jams. By the way, Dream street is the shit. Have you heard Romance 83 by Irene Cara? now that's some dated shit right there! I just bought her What a feelin cd last night.

It's all about how good the songs are for me,
but it amaze me tho how sounds I hated 10 years ago sound rally good in my ears today I grew up to 80's funk & listened to it to the point that I got really tired of it in the 90's & went totally retro back to the 70's & 60's stuff but right nw I'm re-discovering all those great 80's stuff. /peace Manki

most of the music that ends up sounding dated to me are cookie cutter songs that were aimed at the masses in the first place.

Doesn't matter att all how old the music is. It just has to sound good to me, taht's all! I think it's so silly when ppl don't like songs just because they're more than one year old. Great music is music that never loses it's greatness. Prince is a good example of that!

I am more interested in hearing new music that I am in listening to old music, but I still listen to a lot of old music.
Mostly, I like LIVE music, be it old or new, as long as its good. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

Right now, I'd have to say that the most dated sounds I'm hearing has to come from all of those synthesizer-based pop and R&B bands from the late 1980s. Most of the sounds are cold and soulless to me now, and a lot of the beats and melodies were very cookie-cutter, especially all of the old Stock-Aiken-Waterman produced tracks.
In addition, a lot of the really cheesy hair-metal bands sound awfully dated, and they also used a lot of synthesizer as well. It could just be the time, but then again it could be that most of those wannabe Def Leppard and Bon Jovi clones really sucked.

Alot of late-80s music sounds dreadful to me this stuff doesn't age very well. All of those synths and drum machines. That music sounds cold and lifeless.

alot of late 80's/ early 90's pop music sounds very dated.
I don't mind it, though, as long as the song is good. BUT - it always amazes me to listen to certain albums that are so fresh that they sound like they could have been released last week. One example that comes to mind is Peter Gabriel's "So" album; nothing on that album sounds dated.
