Eric Clapton question ...

i know i know ... shouldnt post on the prince.org .... but .... i was jammin to "cocaine" in the car ... and it got me thinking .... i wonder if eric ... with all his drug rehab centers etc ... if he still does that song "live" etc ... just was curious .... i am not really into eric clapton in terms of buying his albums , etc ... just was curious ... he is one of those artists that has had a great run .... neutral (and i figured there were some fans here that might know the answer ... wink

He did it during his Crossroads Festival in 2004.
And this was a show to raise funds for his Crossroads Centre treatment facility.

hmm... has he ever spoken about it ... as far as ... addiction ... vs .... to some people taking it as a "praise " to drug addiction ... etc ? confused

From a 1998 interview...

Q: Your drug addiction and alcoholism are legendary. "I always have to push myself to the edge.", you once said.

CLAPTON: Today I'm frightened by the price I'd have to pay. For ten years I haven't been using drugs anymore, stopped smoking and drinking.

Q: But you're still playing your hit "Cocaine".

CLAPTON: Actually, that's an anti-drug-song. The fans only listen to the refrain: "She don't lie, she don't lie, cocaine" But it says:
"If you wanna get down, down on the ground, cocaine." It's sad how young people destroy themselves with drugs. I hate listening to my old records which I did stoned or drunk.

thanks for the insightful ... interview .... i kinda figured "cocaine" was somewhat of an anti drug song .... i think maybe i remember it as such ... not that i have analyzed the song lately ... but i remember playing it on a radio station in college , etc .... wink
