Very exciting Cure news...bonus disc of The Glove's "Blue Sunshine" will include all demos with Robert Smith vocals!

from Chainofflowers...

Severin also has been shepherding a reissue of 1983's "Blue Sunshine," his lone album with the Cure's Robert Smith as the Glove. The set is tentatively due in July to coincide with a new round of Cure reissues. The album's bonus material will comprise "rough mixes" of songs with Smith singing "all the guide vocals," according to Severin.

"(Fiction label head) Chris Parry strictly forbade Robert from singing on the final album, but we managed to sneak him onto two tracks under the proviso that neither was to be released as singles," Severin said.

Severin also said Smith was quite eager to work on the reissue. "In fact, in many ways he's driven it!" he added. "I think it's been a bit of a mission on his part. He desperately wanted to sing on the album at the time, so getting the chance to release this 'alternative version' has become his personal quest, I think."

And while Severin nixed any thoughts of a one-off concert to celebrate "Blue Sunshine," both he and Smith are in preliminary discussions about recording a new album together. "I'm thinking more prequel than sequel," Severin said. "You know, what led to the Glove being so disturbed."

I read this on Billboard.com yesterday. That will be very cool although I thought there was nothing wrong with the singer that was used on the album. Then again women always beat the men when it comes to vocals for me.

His voice is an acquired taste. I remember the first time I heard The Cure in high school, I thought it was too strange and even though I liked a few songs on 'The Head On The Door', I had to wait until college until I could finally handle listening to the whole thing. After that it was all downhill.

I can definitely see that, although his voice was an instant fit for me.

"The Glove" has always been intriguing to me, but I've always secretly wished it was all Bob's vocals.

This is going to be the perfect missing link between "Japanese Whispers" and "The Top".

My excitement level about this release has gone from biggrin to omfg with this news.

Keep in mind, the closest thing to alternative rock I knew when I bought that album in 1986 was the Human League's 'Crash' album (by Jam & Lewis of course) and the dancier singles by Erasure, Depeche Mode and New Order. I loved "Close To Me", but wasn't quite ready for the album as a whole yet. 1989 is when it all came together and I couldn't stop listening to it. That album and the Banshees' 'Peepshow' were my soundtrack for that summer.

I was never that crazy about The Glove for some reason. But at the same time this release is something I would be interested in. Im a Cure completes so I always get duped into buying all things Smith.
