I have to agree with you. There are certain songs that only obsesse Jackson fans could think of as classic and the "best". And they always equate best to record sales. "Human Nature" didn't get to nr 1 in the UK or America, but it is more of a classic song than both "Stranger in Moscow" or "Earth song". Songs like "I can't Help it" and "Get on the Floor" were never even release has singles but I think they are 10 times better than songs like "Earth song" could ever be. And let's not forget about stuff from albums like Destiny, Truimph and other Jackson albums which has "classic" written all over then but are known by very few people.. [Edited 4/11/06 3:29am]

Oh all the mums love Earth Song. I also remember hating the video when it premiered, prepared for a bollocking when I went to school the next day but everyone was raving about it.

My favorite songs from HIStory (Disc 2):
"Scream" "They Don't Care About Us" "Stranger In Moscow" (brilliant move pairing these 3 songs together) "Earth Song" (the only environmental pop opera known to man) "HIStory" (Tony Moran's HIStory Lesson) (Yeah, technically it's a remix and it's from BOTDF but who cares) BTW, does anyone else think "You Are Not Alone" was a blatant attempt at MOR Boyz II Men style balladry? Thank goodness Frankie Knuckles got his hands on it and at least turned it into a diva like club banger.

That's becasue R Kelly is a bland pathetic prick who couldn't write or sing a memorable or meaningful ballad if his life depended on it, and he deserves to be tortured.

People criticise "Earth Song" because its a save the world lyric and generally this doesnt appeal to "cool" people.
It is undeniably a fantastic musical piece with awesome vocals, unique delivery and those two twigs in the video are classic michael. That image of him hangin on to the trees is simple yet original and totally effective. Its grandiose pop at its finest, right up there with "Bohemian Rhapsody". Stranger in Moscow is a hauntingly beautiful song, one of the best ever lyrics, fantastic delivery and again an amazing video, the rain is brought to life beautifully, that baseball smashin the glass. These two songs along with "little susie" and "they dont care about us" i think are the songs michael is most proud of as an artist. I hope he can deliver stuff like this with the new cd

C'mon now... think about b4 putting a classic like Billie Jean with s'thing, that at best, is just "good". i'd say Stranger is almost as quality as Billie Jean...but that Earth Song is rot...only MJ fans would even consider that song being a classic....thats what seperates a classic from the rest..when the rest of the world takes notice.. and only mj fans ever note earth song... sosgemini you might think the song is rot, different taste i guess. "Cry" now thats rot. Still in my opinion the way the song was produced, the beat, amazing instrumentation and powerful vocals. The quality is on level with billie jean. So is stranger in moscow - this has to be my favourite song by him ever. Even if earth song and stranger in moscow arent really known to the public doesnt matter, its the best pieces his ever done.

Thriller sold so many copies, because it really had some classics on there, mainly "Thriller", "Billy Jean" and "Beat It". They had a mass appeal accross a wide spectrum of ppl with different tastes. How the hell can any1 compare any cut of HIStory 2 something like "Billy Jean" is beyond me. Sure, HIStory had some great moments, but "Earth Song" and "Stranger In Moscow" was not his finest moment in music, which is "Billy Jean" - right down 2 everything that revolves around it, such as the actual dance.
But at the end of the day, every1 is entitled to their opinion. I tend to think that, "Whatever Happens" is a friggin masterstroke, and cannot believe it wasn't pushed more as a single etc. It was 1 of the very few highlights 4 me on the "Invincible" album. That's as close as any track of his has come 2 being a "classic".
