I'm a big Dylan fan too. I'm certainly not an expert on the man or his music, but I do love most of his work. My favourite cd is Blood on the Tracks. I believe he is the greatest lyricist of our time. No one even comes close.
It took me several years to begin an appreciation for Bob, but once I became more familiar with his work, I quickly came to love his music. I know it's not for everyone, but IMHO there's no one quite like him. Long live Bob!!

Actually, one of my favorite Dylan songs ended up on this record...
...Positively 4th Street You got a lotta nerve To say you are my friend When I was down You just stood there grinning You got a lotta nerve To say you got a helping hand to lend You just want to be on The side that's winning You say I let you down You know it's not like that If you're so hurt Why then don't you show it You say you lost your faith But that's not where it's at You had no faith to lose And you know it I know the reason That you talk behind my back I used to be among the crowd You're in with Do you take me for such a fool To think I'd make contact With the one who tries to hide What he don't know to begin with You see me on the street You always act surprised You say, "How are you?" "Good luck" But you don't mean it When you know as well as me You'd rather see me paralyzed Why don't you just come out once And scream it No, I do not feel that good When I see the heartbreaks you embrace If I was a master thief Perhaps I'd rob them And now I know you're dissatisfied With your position and your place Don't you understand It's not my problem I wish that for just one time You could stand inside my shoes And just for that one moment I could be you Yes, I wish that for just one time You could stand inside my shoes You'd know what a drag it is To see you tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Dylan has so many great songs that it's almost impossible to pick a favourite. His catalogue is so immense. I love songs from way back in the day right up until his most recent release.

His lyrics have a way of jabbing at the truth - emotionally, politically, culturally, spiritually. "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."

FINALLY got into Dylan about 5 years ago, his musical career has just been incredible.
Favourite albums are the mid 60's trio Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited but Blonde on Blonde probably is ahead by a nose. His Bootleg series are also brilliant without exception. Favourite song...depends how I'm feeling but Idiot Wind made my mouth drop open the first time I heard it. I'd never heard a song like that before. Favourite Boot: Maybe the Massey Hall Toronto show from 1980 which I've got on VCD. I loves his gospel flavour.

I’m here, I’m here! If pressed, I’d have to name Blonde on Blonde as my favourite Dylan record. Granted, it has a touch of fat on it, but there are so many glorious peaks as well. And laugh if you want, but I think it’s a great party album – just put on Rainy Day Women at any college party and within minutes the drunken frat boys will be belting it out. I think that Dylan’s run from Another Side of… to ‘John Wesley Harding’ may be the greatest run a modern popular recording artist has given us. If the less than perfect Times Are A-Changin’ wasn’t in there messing up the timeline, you could throw Freewheelin’ in as well. I know some of you will make the case for your Stevies and your Bowies (and your Princes too, I haven’t forgotten about him), but consider that between 1964 and 1967 Bob gave us the following: Everyone one of these albums is a popular music touchstone, an icon, a landmark recording, and they also show continuing growth, maturity and sophistication. The only criticism I would ever make of these records is that the harmonica is waaaaay too high in the mix on John Wesley Harding. And let’s not forget that in 2001. long after most have us had given up hope, Bob gave us one of the finest records of his career: I don’t think anyone could have ever hoped for a record this genuinely great from him this late in the game. He sounds just like prime Bob: scary, confident, old as Methuselah (he always sounded old, even when he was twenty) and funny as hell when he wants to be. It's heartening to know that someone who's on the verge of collecting retirement benefits can sound so vital. Embarrassing typo edit. [Edited 4/12/06 15:44pm]

I have nearly all his stuff but I only got Planet Waves about a week ago. It's so good.I'd only heard Forever Young previously-I'd never even heard him sing stuff on bootlegs. It's with The Band and Dirge has a classic (I assume) Robbie Robertson acoustic solo.
Cannot recommend it highly enough. If you knew what I was thinking you'd be worried....
