Are you into alt-country at all? Neko Case's 'Fox Confessor Brings The Flood' is excellent.

I'd rather spend $10 on iTunes. That way, at least I know I'll be enjoying every song.

I was forced to buy this album out of queer pressure being told how brilliant it is and Kylie is a true artiste.

I think as far as Kylie is concerned, a GH compilation sums it up, and a lot of the "hits" you can certainly do without.

Not familiar with Maria Mckee. I'm not into alt-country that much in general, but Neko's album got such rave reviews and I already sorta knew her from The New Pornographers. All the reviews said it was very dark--one review even used the word "goth". I was sold.

Well I wouldn't use dark and goth to describe Maria McKee lol But she sings matters of the heart like nobody's business nod Her voice is simply amazing and she's a poet extraordinaire. I'm writing a thread about her right now nod

i'm REALLY loving the new goldfrapp. and superspaceboy showed me the bonus DVD, and it's worth shelling out a few extra bucks for the special edition. it's great dance music, and great for just bumming around the house.

i really want to recommend the new grandaddy album because i'm a big fan of theirs and i've been waiting for their new (and final) record for some time now, but a) i found an advance and i don't know if it's out in stores yet, and b) i'm not really warming up to it that much. so, eh. get their album "sumday" if you don't have it. it's beautiful pop music.

white music. rolleyes lol hug

i don't know how to define them. they're kinda like ELO meets beck. the lead singer has a very dreamy voice, and they make big, ear-candy like albums with lots of electronics and crunchy guitars and soaring melodies. it rocks, but it's also very pretty, though not in an ethereal way...more like a dreamy, film soundtrack kinda way.

i'll put it this way: the xanadu fan in me LOVES them. giggle

The white boy in me LOVES Xanadu! biggrin

I'm better with the white music than I used to be. Growing up I was strictly into R&B/disco/"urban" ....anything but the music the little white children were into. I had an epiphany when I was 24 but can use all the direction in this area I can get lol

i'll admit i first got into grandaddy because david bowie was ranting about them on his website years ago, and i figured if bowie was a fan they have to be brilliant...fortunately, he didn't steer me wrong.

really, black or white or urban or indie, as long as it feels colorful to me, i'll dig it.

I loved Maria McKee's first album, and the first Lone Justice record too. Haven't heard anything she's done in years, though. Maria and Neko are somewhat in the same vein, but Neko has a little more edge in her sound.

I haven't heard Neko Case's new album yet, but Furnace Room Lullaby's from 2000 (or so) is really brilliant, almost a perfect album.

My impression was buy an album in a store that he could hear tonight. Is that St. Paul record still in print?

I can't imagine anyone having more edge than maria McKee

biggrin

Maria's newest album is stunning. She, to me, is a pure artist. Married to her work. I thank god the day she walked into my life nod

I almost bought Sumday at the 2nd hand shop a good 1/2 dozen times, but I always found something I wanted slightly more. Last time I went back, it was gone. My loss, probably, since I chose some pretty iffy albums over that one.
