I hate that mellow modern day James Taylor music.

I like some mellow music. I can take Jack Johnson in small doses though, after a while his songs begin to sound alike. I think early DMB was alright before they became the official soundtrack to frat boys Don't you dare throw Ben Harper in there either looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

Yeah and thats allowed, Maybe what Matisyahu does gives him great satisfaction, people think because hes an Orthodox Jew he dosen't listen to pop music, he does and he makes it too. Still hes a gimmick and disposable. But he probably knows it and seems "Youth" as a get rich quick scheme. 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

Saw an interview with him a few months ago. He's been into reggae since he was a kid and he readily admits to being heavily influenced by Marley and old-school rap. He's been performing for years now and has just recently caught on for whatever reason. There is absolutely a gimmick aspect to seeing a hasidic jew who can do reggae (Of course there was also a gimmick aspect to seeing a short black guy in a thong and trenchcoat dance around and lick his guitar....). But, I'd suggest giving his live album, "Live at Stubbs" a listen. Dude has skills and a very tight band. . [Edited 4/14/06 7:39am]

Generally I'm not too crazy about gospel music.....but the combo of Ben Harper and the BB of A is amazing. I agree, he is actually very talented, and I feel hes put his heart into it, I burnt the cd last night. Just part of the reason hes more a cult act picked up by pop fans is the fact Youth isnt even on the CD. He covers a large scope of reggae and even rootsy type pop on the album. 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince
