new janet single due in may, album in fall

The first single from Janet Jackson's as-yet-untitled new album is expected to hit U.S. radio outlets in May, Virgin Urban president Jermaine Dupri tells Billboard. The album will likely follow at the end of September. As previously reported, longtime Jackson collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis have contributed to the new album.

"It's a milestone year for us and for the collaboration," Jam previously told Billboard.com. "It'll be 20 years since the release of [Jackson's 1986 album] 'Control,' so there's definitely a little bit of a nod to that on the new album."

Will Dupri be a featured guest on any of the new tracks? "You'll hear my voice on some songs," he says. "But I don't know if Jermaine Dupri the artist exists anymore. I'm not into that right now. It's far on the back burner. It's probably in the cards somewhere down the road. But it's the last thing I'm thinking about right now."

Once I read that JD's oompa loompa looking ass was going to be on the CD, I just stopped reading. I have a feeling that Janet's going to make yet another shit album. I hope I'm wrong, I really hope I am.

why is everyone but janet quoted in this article?

i no longer have faith in janet the artist..she was my first fav..the first concert i went to...the first artist folks new i loved and would buy me janet crap because its makes their gift buying easy...

but since the "aight" all for you and the horrid damita jo, and the squid seemingly in control of her career and it all adds up to me just not caring about her anymore...

i'll buy the next album and hopefully be suprised..but if its crap, its going right with damita jo...never to be listened to again...followed up with zero desire to see her live...or buy remixes...

Did you enjoy "Doesn't Really Matter" from 2000's Nutty Professor II soundtrack? That's the kind of really infectious pop/R&B I think I am expecting from a project helmed by Jermaine Dupri.

It took me a moment to get with the song. I can dig it but it's not one of my favorites. In fact, I wasn't even thinking about it until you brought it up.

See I agree. I will admit, I liked what he did with Mariah last year. My thing is Janet is at her best when she doesn't mess with her formula: Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. All of my least favorite CD had a million and one different producers on it :All 4 U and Damita Jo. Even though JJ and TL were on it they didn't deal with it exclusively and it showed and that's why I never listen to them.

You know Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis did not produce "Got 'Til It's Gone".

Oh God...It's going to be a Janet Carey album...Not what I wanted. I'm listening to some of the "Damita Jo" tracks that I will be putting on my Ipod soon. Awesome ddance pop stuff that will probably not be on this album, which will probably be a guest rapper overload!

When I heard Jermaine Dupri was involved and even thought the story kept changing here and there a little bit about his involvement (he is only the head of the Virgin R&B division....only the excutive producer.....only invloved in a few tracks....), I knew just what was going to happen.

It did seem inevitable didn't it? On top of that, JD is her boyfriend. She always with her men it seems (Rene Elizondo).

Well, Mariah had a huge comeback and i presume Janet will too. But will the album be good? With Jermaine Dupri on board, i feel this one won't interest me.

yeah but the majority of that album was jam and lewis and just like control and pleasure principle, got til its gone fits within the concept of musical theme of the album...all for you and damita jo were all over the place...listening to them reminded me of really horrible mixtapes i'd make as a kid off the radio...

he said SOME people not the whole album and I believe the majority of the album was produced by Jimmy and Terry , his productions are okay I think he did a good job with Usher's and Mariah cd.

Why is the lead single being released 4 months ahead of the projected album date? Is it gonna be a teaser or something, with a better single a month before album releases? I'm scratching my head at that.

I dunno. I wanna have faith, but I don't know what to really think. I'll just have to wait and listen before I say anything else.

I love Janet. No matter what she puts out will be quality. Even "All For you" which basically sucks as an album is still fun and I still listen. I like "Damita Jo"...but in the end it left me a little disappointed. I do hope for a great album, a return to "Control" through "Velvet Rope" form...but time will tell. I love that bitch either way.
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

Damita Jo is dope.

Judging from her last album, Damita Jo, which was a relatively great album if you ask me, I think that this will be an equally good album as Damita Jo was. I expect more dance-pop numbers on this record than some slutty stuff that we have been listening to since the 1993 Janet. album, since it's some kind of reincarnation of her Control years. I think this record will put her back on that MTV map. And plus, I've heard Jermaine Dupri produces most of the material on here and I think he did a great job with Mariah on the Emancipation Of Mimi record, which is his best production work yet. So, I think it will be pretty interesting how she wraps this one up in the fall.

That's what I'm wondering? That's too long to have 1 song out with no album. They will probably release a second single right before the cd comes out.
