Yeah they do reflect on those people, if people want to look back on her and make threads...they can. She was someone's daughter.

Let's not use Mary J. Blige as an example of the average person. She was probably totally wasted on coke when she wrote that.

it's a different emotional, visceral experience IMO. listening and being a fan of someone's music, knowing they're lyrics, having memories about your life associated to certain songs is a much more immediate, engrained emotional response versus learning about great figures of history through textbooks.
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

I know what you mean, but it's not like JFK, Rosa, MLK, etc. are ancient historical figures, either.

Even though I was never really a fan of "Left Eye," she is not here to speak up for herself. So, I will never disrespect her memory by saying things like some have already said. RIP "Left Eye." rose.

You know, it think it's a shame people seem to have such a hard time giving Lisa Lopes her props.

(This ain't directed at you, Sos -- I feel you on the honor tip.)

But, I remember when she died and a columnist wrote that people shouldn't react to her passing the way folks had reacted to that of Kurt Cobain's. It was defensive ignorance trying to pass itself off as expertise.

But, I sometimes think folks don't get the universality of grief and how relative accomoplishment really is.

For the longest time, I wondered why so many people were going nuts over Jeff Buckley's death. Then, I heard "The Last Goodbye" and I thought: "Dang... Dude was tight..."

But most of us -- even I -- would rather not be proven wrong about someone's contribution. Would rather not admit my lack of familiarity doesn't mean that person wasn't talented, special or positive.

whoknows

I'm sorry to lower the tone but I've got to say Lisa was one of the sexiest women in music ever. I also think she's an underrated rapper. I loved her voice. It was just as sexy as she was.
