Do any of you think that the songs from the Jacksons era are ending up more respected and revered than MJ solo stuff.? Take "Can You feel it" for instance that song seems to be more well known than anything of Vince and History.

So did you buy "The Essential Jacksons"?

If so, what do you think?

I remember buying this album and "The One" DVD on a late night shopping spree at a Roanoke Walmart a few years ago. You can get some good shit once everyone goes home and leaves the aisles clear.

lol

I bought "The Essential Jacksons" and they are also album cuts more or less. If you want a CD with the Jacksons "hits" then it is alright. However, some of the tracks I digged like "Be Not Always" and "Blues Away" were absent. Still a good disc and the cover was pretty slick lookin' also. Anyone know what it is from? Kind of looks like the Destiny era.

btw,I just listened to this CD and I have to say...

isn't "State Of Shock" one of the crappiest songs ever?! I hadn't heard it since 1984 and I had forgotten how bad it is disbelief those lyrics could have been written by a fourth grader...

you got me on my knees
please baby please
I know you like to tease
but please baby please
you take it to me good
like you know you should
I love the way you walk
talk,baby,talk

eek Michael,what were you thinking??

I have the original demo version, with Freddie Mercury.
Yes, it was supposed to be a duet with him and not Mick Jagger.
Appearently, Michael and Freddie had a falling out, of sorts.
It sounds basically the same, but with Freddie singing Micks part.

It's the pic in the gatefold sleeve from 'The Jacksons' (1976) my personal fave Jacksons album.

It's funny...Mike went all out for this song, making sure he had a "high profile" duet partner and the song is still crap lol A much better song from this era is "Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin",Jermaine's duet with Michael. This song proves that Mike didn't need to venture outside of his family to make a killer duet, lol.

Yes,I got it and I like it.Many of these songs I haven't heard in awhile,so it was fun going back and hearing it all again. Some of these songs, like "Show You The Way To Go" and "Find Me A Girl",still sound as cool and smooth as when they first came out.My only complaint with this set is....they should have included "Torture" and the 12" extended disco remix of "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)".Other than that,it's a superb compilation.

thumbs up!

I haven't got the album but to hear songs like "Show you the Way to go" which was a nr 1 in the UK and "Find me a girl" on the same album must be bliss. They should have included "Even Though She Gone" and "Time Waits for No one" to the collection. I think if anyone want's to hear the "true" MJ you need to listen to these songs...

I DO respect this stuff way more than later MJ solo stuff. Jackson 5, Destiny, Triumph, Off The Wall, and even Thriller, had so much heart and soul to them. They also had bite. They were really fun dance records that just oozed funk. I truly think Thriller just got too big and MJ lost perspective on many things, including his music. A lot of stuff after Thriller just seemed so forced compared to those early records.

BTW, I own this one too...its so great. I have all their 70s album on vinyl and since they were played to death back in the day, they are scratched up to shit. Its so nice to have these killer tunes crystal clear.

Finally, State of Shock is clearly the weakest track.
