wow....

nod I recognized it the first time I heard it; I knew it was Prince's voice. Wonder if he got paid royalties for it (not that he needs the money, mind you). lol

I remember once when Arrested Development appeared on Saturday Night Live--it was interesting, because they came on there with some new jazzy/funky arrangements that I hadn't heard from them before or since--and during the performance I remembered this bald chick alternating back and forth from playing keyboards to playing bass...I was like, "who's that? she's seems to be responsible for a lot of this new sound..."

Sure enough, later on that year, Meshell Ndegeocello's debut, Plantation Lullabies comes out...I went Oh, That's the girl who was backing up Arrested Development!!" and sure enough she was gone after that, and they never had that sound again...

In a later interview on KCRW, she said that Speech had her come on as band arranger/director for that one performance...

Dionne Farris also had her start in the group, before she left to put out Wild Seed, Wild Flower....

Speech's solo stuff is very nice too. More of an R&B feel

I highly recommend Hoopla.
