Opinion Poll: "This Woman's Work": Do You Prefer Kate Bush or Maxwell's Version of This Song?

I prefer Kate's version, honestly. Don't care much for Maxwell's falsetto rendition of this song, although I'm sure there are people out there who will disagree with me. My hairdresser was recently talking about this song, saying how much she loved it, and loved Maxwell's falsetto vocals. I said to her, "Have you ever heard Kate Bush's version of this song? It's much better." She said she hadn't, so I burned a copy of Kate's rendition of this song on a CD and gave it to her. I told her to check it out and let me know what she thinks. It will be interesting to see if she still likes Maxwell's version of this song after hearing Kate sing it. giggle
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I love Max, Kate's version is better.

maxwell's version is very soothing but its a very sad song. his cover is well sung but its not well performed. does that make sense? i don't know. i "get" the song coming from kate. when maxwell sings it he just flexes his vocal muscles but the emotion isn't there.

in a word: kate.

nod Yes that definitely makes sense, I know what you're saying. It is a very sad song, I can't listen to Kate's version without crying. Such a beautiful song! sigh

I wanna say Maxwell because it was the first version I heard, but seeing the video for Kates Version took me back..
I loved it.
Kate's version just made me stop everything I was doing and listen.

Just like the first time I heard Maxwell's "Whenever Wherever Whatever" followed by a couple tears flowing down my face.. touched

Maxy's, because he added the much needed soul to a song about one's soul. Kate's version sounded very stiff, kinda like how Cueball O'connor butchered Nothing Compares 2 u after St. Paul made it his own!

kate, of course. i always thought maxwell's version sounded like he was imitating her. it didn't bring much new to the song, other than it opened up a new audience to kate bush's music.

Co-Sign. Kate is a great song writer but, she really has a horrible voice.

Maxwell was on point with his cover and I now understand how all those bad singers on AI get over. People just don't know good singing anymore when they hear it.

you may not like her voice, but she most certainly does not have a terrible voice. i'm sure if you asked maxwell or prince, they'd disagree with you too.

I feel the opposite way about "Nothing Compares 2 U". I thought Sinead streamlined it and made it listenable. That's the only song I don't like on the Family's album.

And I must admit that I do not like artists to do tracks that are already perfect or don't add anything to it.

Gimme Kate's version ANYTIME.

I have a mash up between the two version....and it doesn't really do Kate justice.
