HeyJude

Since everyone is all abuzz with American Idol gossip... I believe Paula Abdul's first single was "Knocked Out" which went nowhere... "Straight Up" became a major hit, and "KO" was re-released months later.

Actually, "Knocked Out" was the first single, then 'It's Just The Way That You Love Me" with "Straight Up" as the third. After the album had spun off 3 #1 hits (Straight Up, Forever Your Girl, Cold Hearted), Virgin re-released "It's Just the Way That You Love Me" with a new video. The single went top 5.

Can't believe I knew all of this information about Paula Abdul offhand. boxed

i saw that video on MTV Soul or something several times when
it was first released and kept thinking to myself that there
had to be something seriously wrong for that song to not be
a smash hit.

it had all the right ingredients and it still remains a great
great song.

Scissor Sisters

Laura got to #54 in the UK in 2003, then when Comfortably Numb hit in 2004 they blew up. Laura was later released again

You know what's weird? When I 1st heard "Cops" I wasn't feeling it. In fact, I was bashing it because of the notion that the cops would come a-knockin' from the sexin' lol, and then after I heard the entire albumm the shit just flowed and it's now my favorite cut on the album!

I won't say lackluster, exactly, but:

Whitney Houston had a decent hit with You Give Good Love, but it was Saving All My Love For You that blew her up, wasn't it?

Actually, I seem to remember that Hold Me was on the radio first. But that wasn't as big as You Give Good Love, so the same holds true.... hey, I'm trying here!

The Beatles didn't top the charts with Love Me Do, but they did with Please Please Me.

I don't know about that because "Good Love" was a pretty big hit for her and that kinda blew her up.

Yeah, but wasn't Good Love mostly played on R&B radio? Saving All My Love was a huge pop hit.

Yeah, I just saw her video for "I'm Every Woman" and I swear her voice was strongest then and now it's just average. Damn shame. Bobby fucked her career off.

I didn't say that, but it's the difference between a successful singer and a superstar.

Crossing over isn't necessarily good for an artist or a person.

1st: Dred Loc
2nd: If That's Your Boyfriend

Digital Underground:
1st: Doowutchyalike
2nd: Humpty Dance

india.arie
1st: Video
2nd: Brown Skin
(Actually, this one ain't true. The first single got more widespread airplay and better chart position. But dammit, let's face it: The second song is what sold her debut album and cemented her place in most of our hearts.
