Wow,this looks like the most thorough, most impressive Stephanie Mills compilation I have seen.Looking at the tracklist, you are reminded of just how many big hits she had. Some of these songs I had forgotten about, and I have not heard the funky "Last Night" since 1982! I'm gonna go out this weekend and pick this up.To those of you who already have it,a few questions...

***Many tunes are presented in their "single versions",which is understandable. She's has soooo many hits, they needed to make room for them all.But I'm wondering about the songs that are not labeled as "single versions"....are these the full-length album versions?

***How are the liner notes? Are they detailed and well-written?

***I wonder are there any plans to remaster the 1980 album 'Sweet Sensation'? That's my favorite Stephanie Mills album.I wish this set included the song "Try My Love" from that album. It was never released as a single, but it's one of my favs from that album.Another superb album track is "Hold Me Now" from her excellent 1987 album 'If I Were Your Woman'.

wave I SURE DID biggrin

I think it`s the full-lenght versions, but it doesn`t say in the booklet.

The booklet is okay... It includes a short biography/essay by David Nathan and a few pictures i`ve seen a hundred times before. It was nice to see the chart positions for each single though.

There`s a b-side on the album called "Wailin`" from 1982, this is one of the highlights of the disc, i know you`ll love it.

Speaking of Stephanie Mills, i bought a gospel compilation that includes Mills` version of Diana Ross` "Reach out and touch", it`s very beautiful touched

Phooey. I already have 2 different SM compilations, plus 4 studio albums. This one looks the best though.

Most of the other Stephanie Mill compilations aren't very good. They all seem to be missing one song or another. This 'Gold' set is the most impressive one of all.All the hits are accounted for.

They`re great, brilliant choice of songs and a few mixes. I saw the "Gold" disco compilation, but i don`t think i`ll buy it.
Speaking of Olivia Newton John, i saw Xanadu the other day, great music, but a horrible movie disbelief

I would like to see Natalie Cole get the gold treatment next. Maybe some songs from her "Unpredictable" LP, a few b-sides (if she has any...) and some 12"remixes.
The 1991 "This will be" remix single was a big dissapointment

actually,Natalie already has an excellent 2-CD compilation that I highly recommend...

Nothing from 'Unforgettable, though. This set concentrates on her Capitol Records years (1975-1983).Contains all the hits and key album tracks from this phase of her career.Very good set!

I've only cared for Stephanie Mills mainly for her first album and maybe two or three other songs in the early 1980s and I have them on 45s already. I've got my favorite, "Pilot Error", on "Billboard's Dance Hits Of 1983" and it's the 12 Inch version.

One of my favorite songs by Stephanie Mills is her disco version of the Bacharach-David song "This empty place"
I don`t even think it`s available on any of her compilations,
only on the "For the first time" album

...and on the brilliant "Motown salutes Bacharach" compilation

Wait. Is this an entirely new compiltion or has it been out for a while?

I could've sworn that I have something very similar to this, and I remember being all stoked about it because I have a girlfriend singer here that sounds so much like Stephanie Mills it's SPOOKY eek ... she, not being American was only vaguely familiar with Mill's music (only "Home"), and when I gifted her with her own compilation she almost fell out and died! I'm still trying to get her to do either "Sweet Sensation" or "The Power of Love" at her live shows; I need a break from all these German broads doing Chaka's "Ain't Nobody" at every gig in town lol lol lol !!!!

Yes,she was a major R&B artist. She didn't experience alot of "crossover" success though. But in the 80s,she was BIG in the R&B world.

And, for being the original Dorothy in THE WIZ (which for those who don't know was an urban adaptation of the musical The Wizard of Oz), she was quite the little darling of Broadway in the 70's cool...she was like our littleblack Judy Garland for that time lol !
