Awww, that's SWEET! I saw a documentary on the tele called SOUL, and it kind of delved into the muic form since it's start, highlighting one person per, let's say, decade. They would make a cross-cut of the genre of that time, also showing the other big names. They went from the 50's (the birth of old skool R&B) until the 90's (the transformation of New Jack Swing into Urban R&B), and the person they chose for the last episode was Mary! Funny thing is that you had all these people commenting on Mary's voice and how she had to feel her own material. Funny thing about it was that they all said the same, from Beyonce to Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis; all blabla-ing about how she's SPECIAL cuz she feels what she sings. I mean; doh! I thought that was the case with every person whom's career spans more than a decade, right? That's what gives them STAYING power.

Mary singing live can be a nightmare. I've rarely seen her sound good live. I like her, but prior to this new cd, she was singing out of tune and no one said a damn thing. Weird.

i keep telling ya'll that hooker can't sing live...i get proven right time and time again.... She was godawful on the Grammies--an I-questioned-whether-she-actually-knows how-to-sing kind of awful--but I thought she was good doing the same song for the Katrina Benefit. For the most part, I'm not a fan of her type of singing. And if you can't sing live, then you can't actually sing. Exhibit A: Third Eye Blind. [Edited 4/2/06 20:06pm]
