Lady Kier Kirby (Deee-Lite)

While anxiously waiting to hear from one of my guilty-pleasure singers, I was online and came across updates at several sites mentioning Kier Kirby's solo album. She at least has a website up now, so it seems promising...

Known as the vocalist, lyricist, co-producer and floor shaker for, the now defunct band, DEEE-LITE, Kier Kirby a.k.a Lady Miss Kier, is still in the studio preparing her solo album. Her album is a pop and dance fusion of breakbeat electro jazz and funk.

After 3 DEEE-LITE albums and 3 world tours, the band split up in 1995 and she moved from N.Y.C to London and started DJing and programming her own productions. She has written and sung on 2 songs on the new Bootsy Collins album released on Warners in November 2002. She has also collaborated with DJ Die and Krust for an early 2003 Full Cycle release, as well as George Clinton and Jerome Rodgers (P-Funk) and discovered production wizard ‘Buckeye’. To hear the latest Bootsy Collins collaboration – (MPFree)! - go to
www.ladykier.com Her DJ set is an eclectic clash of electro classics, future funk and broken beats with a little bit of jungle, ragga, R’n’B and Acid House thrown in.

She and DJ Dimitry formed the group DEEE-LITE and Sampledelic productions in 1986 in N.Y.C. Towa Tei joined the group in ’81, and DEEE-LITE’s first 12” Groove is in the Heart struck like lightning on dance floors and radio. As art director her influence was felt throughout the 90’s through fashion, video and graphic design. Although she does not do any interviews, and likes to keep a low profile, any requests for future press can be sent to info@ladykier.com

Any other fans of her? I miss the days of Deee-Lite, but look forward to hearing new material from her.

Wow.

She reminds me, lookswise, of Nina Hagen.

PS (started the group in 86, Towa Tei joing in 81? That's bizarre!)

I am HUGE fan of Deee Lite. he Lady became quite a trainwreck by the end of it, but considering the scene she was in, we ALL were tainwrecks by the end. lol

It'd be nice to hear something new from her, but I'm not really holding my breath. At least we will forever have the classics which make up the Deee Lite catalogue. nod

• Did you first think Prince was gay? •

Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

Word On That!!!!

i will certainly believe it only when i see it. i remember talking to her, had to be 10 years ago now, and saying her solo album was near completion.

one of the worlds great mysteries....why she has never released a solo joint. it certainly could of been huge!
