What are the best 'Remastered' album?

I don't mean your fac cd but what albums sound so much greater in your opinion.

Miles Davis: Kind Of Blue
Stevie Wonder: Music Of My Mind/Talking Book/Innervisions/Fulfillingness First Finale/Songs In The Key Of Life
Jimi Hendrix: Axis: As Bold As Love/Electric Ladyland
Pink Floyd: Dark Side Of The Moon SACD

Just to name a few, but I'm still waiting for those Prince and Sly & The Family Stone reissues!

I remember when HIStory came out with MJ's biggest hits like Billie Jean, Beat It, Don't Stop etc. remastered, I noticed a huge difference in quality. Expecially Billie Jean. I noticed sounds I never noticed before on the original 82 version. Really blew me away how much they improved each track, expecially the Off The Wall and Thriller tracks.

The extended & instrumental versions

of 'Billie Jean' should of been

included on the remastered one.

Personally , i was blown away by how TABU records re-did the first few albums of Alexander O'Neal , Cherrelle , SOS Band and a few more .

Also Japanese re-issues have some incredible results .
Sometimes they use a 24-bit mastering technique , which can clearly be heard .
That's why their prices vary , because in a 1800 Yen cd has not been put that much effort than a in a 2400 Yen cd .
I've bought 2 early 80's albums ( Rockie Robbins & Booker T Jones ) which sound like they've been recorded recently .

There has been quite some development in the audio/hi-end world like the Super Audio CD system , DVD audio , and the Hybrid-system .
The last mentioned one has been developed for the big consumers-market .
A cd created in this technique has the abilty to be played on a regular audio-system or a Super Audio system .
These systems just add an extra audio-flava to a cd , in comparison to the many downloads on the web which sound good but miss that extra effort in postproduction .

Those 20th Century Masters compilations, corny as they seem with their short-ass eleven track listings, sound great. I noticed this when I ripped a Brothers Johnson track for a mixtape. It was loud and jammin and clear!

Straight up ! thumbs up!

And all them awesome promo-pics in the booklets from which some i haven't seen before , like on the ONE WAY and RICK JAMES/STONE CITY BAND compilations .
All those samplers have been recorded directly from the original masters ... the best source ( imo ) .

The Pet Shop Boys remasters of most of their albums (they stoped at "Nightlife" but keep saying that it will be released soon) are very good! I can't compare them to the original, but the bonus material is excellent!

Yep, this is one great reissue. It's the one I was referring to.
And I alwayssaid I wish Prince would follow the lead Rhino and Elvis costello took on his albums : one CD with the original album, and a seperate CD with live cuts, B-sides, 12' mixes, and demos

in my mind, the Bob Dylan remasters are 2nd to none. They sound phenomenal.

I also love the Talking Heads remasters, and the first batch of Cure reissues.

The Pet Shop Boys also did a wonderful job with their remasters, as did Eurythmics.

Oh, those Talking Heads ones are wonderful. And generally , I find Surround re=mixing of albums to be too "gimmicky", but in this case it definitely worked. Hearing 'Remain in Light" and "Naked" in Surround Sound is a revelation

The Rhino editions of all of the Elvis Costello albums are amazing! These are how remasters are supposed to be done: fully remastered songs, 2nd discs of bonus tracks, booklets with interviews and comments on the songs. This stuff is head and shoulders above the Rykodisc versions of his albums.
I'm the first mammal to wear pants.
